I just had a conversation with Monroe customer support. When I told him the vehicle, he said "yeah, we have had a lot of complaints with that strut." Then he said they made a running change to the strut assembly that addresses the problem, and that is indicated by an "@" after the part number on the package label.

Since I purchased from RockAuto, I have to take it up with them for getting it swapped out, but I have a feeling it's going to be difficult go get one from RockAuto with the @ sign.

Update: Summit Racing ships directly from the manufacturer, so I'll try ordering from them.
I'd be interested to know what they did to address the problem and what they decided the problem was.
It'd be nice if they shared that info with KYB, but that would be bad for their bottom line.
When I spoke with KYB, they wouldn't even admit that it was something they had heard of before.

RockAuto was pleasing to deal with. I recently bought a intake and throttle body gasket set from them and when they shipped it, the TB gasket was of an incorrect size. Upon completing their claim form and providing details, I was credited the full amount and was asked to keep or discard the items I received. Luckily only the TB was the problem so I kept the lower runner gasket and the butterfly valve gasket.

They are pretty easy to get a refund or exchange with. I just meant that there is no way to specifically request a newer stocked item with the "@" symbol behind the part number since you can't actually speak to a person. I requested a refund for the struts from RockAuto and ordered a new set from Summit, who ships these particular parts straight from the manufacturer. Surely, then, I'll get the updated part!

P.S. This is also the second time I've gotten defective parts from RockAuto in as many orders... I ordered a new radiator from them to get ahead of the SMOD issue, and it leaked on startup. I returned it for a refund and purchased a new one locally. Their excellent prices are tempting, but this seems to be a textbook case of "you get what you pay for."

I ordered a new radiator from them about a year ago. Never got around to installing it.
I am hesitant to use it now, as I have heard a few people have had this issue.
I hate to cause a problem in an effort to fix a problem I don't yet have...

I ordered a TYC from them back in late 2016 or early 2017. Still have that and have put on about 50K miles since then. No issues to report. So it all depends on what end of the stick you fall with these.
I replaced the radiator, radiator cap, upper and lower radiator hoses, thermostat and the radiator fan. These were done as a precautionary measure. NO issues to report and I have done other improvements to the truck that constituted me testing the truck extensively with no issues.

Just did a quick search and realized that I ordered a DENSO 221-3254 radiator off of Amazon back in July 2020.
I am in SC and my truck is basically rust free.
After the months long headache I just had with the struts replacement, I am going to hold off on replacing the radiator.

Just make sure that your radiator is not showing possible signs of SMOD and if it is, then it would be recommended that you act fast. If not, then wait till spring and swap them all out. It would be wise to change out your ATF when you do the radiator and other stuff as well. Wont hurt to change out the ATF flex lines to the bottom of the radiator.

I just received one of the new struts from Summit. It did ship directly from Monroe and does have the "@" sign on the label, which supposedly means it's been updated to addressing binding/popping. Unfortunately the passenger side strut is backordered for 3 weeks. I'll report back after I get both the replacement struts installed and let y'all know if it really fixes the problem.

When a company like KYB has a page like this they know there is a problem with their product and have no problem pointing the finger at other things.
KYB is a reputable company and just like any reputable company, they are not immune to design defects in the real world. That does not mean that they are deflecting blame; they are merely stating that you cover all bases prior to isolating or assuming the problem is the strut.

I installed the one new strut from Summit. I does not make the popping noise while turning, but it does make an awful metallic clinging sound over every bump, even small bumps or movements. This is getting old.

I have had that dull quiet rattle since the day I installed the lift kit and complete KYB struts and springs a few weeks ago. Yesterday I started getting the bang/pop when I first start driving the truck and turn. I`m going to order all the Honda upper bearing mount parts.

Did you check the torque on the sway bar end link nuts? I have had those work themselves lose and even rocking the truck (by pushing down on it or jumping on the running board) would produce that clunking/knocking sound.

Yeah, I pulled the wheel back off to check everything and all nuts/bolts are tight. I was hoping it would’ve been that easy. I’m guessing it’s something in the upper mount. Looks like I’ll try a third Monroe strut, at least on the driver’s front. If it’s defective too, I’m going to bite the bullet and buy OEM for the front. On the bright side, it only takes me 35 minutes to change a strut now, start to finish. The lack of rusty/seized bolts is a game changer!

I got my third strut from Monroe and it still makes noise while steering. I am returning the Monroe front struts and have ordered OEM. I ordered from Hondapartsnow.com. $785 with tax and shipping. More than double the price of the Monroe’s, but it’s worth it to have a quiet set of struts.

Best place to buy 2 complete Honda OEM front struts for my 2010?
If looking for OEM, then it's the dealer. No matter who you go to, the delivered price is approximately the same when you factor in taxes, shipping and other stuff.

Just the three OEM sources I looked at list them for $330 to $350 each for the part alone.

Have you guys tried to change the strut mount to OEM and keep the spring and damper either KYB or Monroe?
