The rev-matching isn't going away.
Yup.

And as I understand it, it is a required quirk of the engine due to the use of dog clutches for two of the gears. Otherwise, I think it will put undue stress on the components. It's no different than rev-matching a manual transmission. Sure, you can do it without, but you'll put more stress on the components, plus get that infamous lurch in the process. Not great.
