Went on a recent camping trip up to Rocky Mountain National Park (west side, Grand Lake). Towing a teardrop with dry weight of 1100#, probably 1500# with on-board water, gear, and crap. Four adults in the cabin, bed full of their gear and a full-sized spare. Measured tongue weight on the trailer around 250#, due to loaded toolbox on trailer tongue.
Route went from Denver up I-70 and over Berthoud Pass at 11,000 feet elevation. Stayed in Sequential Mode much of the way to manage RPM and keep off the brakes on downhill runs. Never felt like I was pushing the vehicle's limits at all (was a bit worried, never having carried so much over a notorious pass).
Very, very pleased with EaRL Gray's handling and performance, and got a reported average 19.3 mpg. Have about 8,000 miles on the odometer total.
The more I drive this RL, the happier I am that Ford had such a cluster event going for the Maverick I ordered and never could get.
Camping at Burning Bear on Guanella Pass earlier this summer.
Hiking Timber Lake Trail, RMNP.
