I didn't like the weathertech on past vehicles because they didn't fit perfect/were bulgey/bowed in certain spots, and they felt quite slick and plastic-y instead of rubbery/grippy especially when wet and it rains here daily for 6 months straight in Tampa Bay. I got the OEM rubber mats and like them just fine/perfect fit and I just hose them off when they get cruddy.
I'm sure all the options beat the regular OEM carpet mats.

I also have the OEM all weather mats which I will use for summer, they are nice however their biggest drawback is right over the gas pedal where they do not cover anything. Any water or whatever dripping off your foot hits the carpet and not the mat. Poor design in this respect but they do look nice. If I were in Florida, the OEM mats is all I would use also.

I put them in on Friday...always will have WeatherTechs in my car. They fit great.
Installed my WeatherTech mats yesterday and then proceeded to spill my daughter's (26 yrs old) fountain drink (PowerAde) in the center storage compartment. I was throwing something away at the gas station and forgot I just set her drink on sliding cover of the storage compartment. Pulled away and it tipped over, spilling about 4 ounces onto the sliding cover and into the storage below. Maybe WeatherTech should come out with a mat for the center console:grin: My son was with me, so we had the other drink holders in the front occupied.

Isn't that crazy I feel compelled to reveal my daughter's age and her choice of drink so I don't get chastised for being an unfit parent?

Why I Returned My Rear WeatherTechs

The photos in an earlier post here are really interesting. It seems as though WeatherTech have changed the design of the rear mats.

I purchased the Honda OEM mats in July because that's all that was available. For me, the quality is much higher than the WeatherTechs. Even so, I bought a full set of WeatherTechs to try them. I had them on my R1. In the front on the driver's side, they definitely cover more area and I'm keeping them. The downside is that they are something of a tray in which sand turns to mud and I get that all over my feet/shoes. The OEM's are a much higher quality rubber and have grooves that trap the sand/mud below your feet.

As for the rear, the WeatherTech mat I got was continual, covering under the seat and over the ridge into the area where your feet go. I liked this because it protected a bit of the ridge, but still, the rubber was cheesy versus the OEMs. Sent them back and kept the WeatherTechs in front.

It was surmised here that Honda won't extend their front mats due to liability issues (i.e. the stuck accelerator issue); but WeatherTech doesn't have to worry about it.

Bottom line, I much prefer the quality and overall design of the OEMs, but prefer the coverage in the front of the WeatherTechs. It's a trade-off.

I agree with most of what you say. I too was shocked that the "quality" of the WeatherTech mat has slipped a little. Not in the design or fitment, but in the weight of the rubber material. When the rear mats and the under seat mat arrived, I could barely tell there was anything in the box. I think that is a good compromise to use the front WeatherTech mats and something else, OEM, Husky, etc on the second row and underneath the seats.

I bought their full set (my pix in posts #77 & #78). Yes, the rears and under seat are definitely thinner that the fronts. That's why they could be folded in half in the shipping carton (the fronts are too rigid to fold). However, they're still rigid enough to hold their shape, that's why I kept mine.

The reason why I like the Weathertechs up here in the great white north, is their "bucket" shape keeps melted snow & road salt from your boots from running off the mat and soaking thru the carpeting and onto the metal floor pan underneath. Years ago in Minnesota, it wasn't uncommon for floor pans to rust because of this.

I can't say if their rears design has changed, as I've only owned fronts before. My 2017 Ridgeline fronts are the exact same thickness and material as my 2009 Accord fronts. The material is more of a rubberized plastic, than rubber. That's so it can hold its "bucket" shape. Their fit is flawless.

As in any fitted mat, the standard OEM carpet-fabric mats have to be removed before you install the Weathertechs. However, they fit fairly well back into and top of the Weathertechs. Of course, their directions say you're not supposed to install anything on top of the driver side mat certainly (and all of rest too), for safety reasons..

Exactly my sentiments, also kept OEM mats in back, but replaced front mats with WeatherTech. If the OEM front driver's mat provided as much protection both under the pedals and against the inner side wall I would never consider the WeatherTech.
If I take a trip and know I'll have limited exposure to dirt or water/snow I may replace the WeatherTech mats with the OEMs.

If you have the Honda OEM rubber mats and like me do not want to spend more on weathertech or another brand, I would suggest that you spend 8 bucks on a can of 3M Scotchguard carpet protector. Treat your carpet properly and you will save yourself a lot of cleaning come spring. I also treat all my summer carpet mats as well. If I had fabric seats, I would do them also. I have done fabric seats in the past and this stuff really helps keep them new looking.

No question about that. One thing I noticed though: The lip of the forward mats in the rear compartment block the floor heater vents under the seat. I see this as a trade-off. They keep the snow melt in, but lessen comfort for rear passengers.

If you look at the last photo of my post #78 above, it doesn't look like they block the floor heat vents.... they reduced the edge height for them. And those cutouts are on both sides (see middle photo on post #77).

That is really interesting. Clearly they must have gotten some feedback on the first version of the rear mats. There was no cutout, but also they were one mat that covered under the seat and in the floor area in front, but that covered all of the ridge between except the area where the seat posts attach.

I will say though, by putting those cutouts in, they have mostly removed the value that you mention (i.e. of being a ridged tray). Obviously the liquid can come out where the cutouts are. That said, the OEM mats are essentially flat toward the heater ducts. The WeatherTechs at least have a little ridge there. Again, a trade-off I'd say.

@Lifesaver1 - yep, you're right about that! The lip is only about 3/8" high back there. However, most of the snow/salt action is on the driver's mat, so it's a trade-off, as you mention.

Hey @Lifesaver1 I'm guessing that you might be thinking of the Husky WeatherBeaters? ;) Which is what I have in my wife's RL.

So not to be confused...it is the Husky WB's that cover the whole back area that also include the ridge and lil' slits/cutouts for the Magic Seat posts. And it is the Husky's that cover the entire "Dead Pedal" upfront by the Driver.

Again, I've had 33 rigs and have had both WeatherTechs and/or Husky's in every car or truck. And with Husky's I've had both the older style Classics "Dimond Plate" look, and the newer WeatherBeaters.

My only issue with both WeatherTechs and/or Husky (depending on the vehicle application), is whenever WeatherTech or Husky does not put the "Factory Clips" in the passenger and rear position...then the WeatherTechs really slide all over with their smooth NO "Nibs" bottom (but I know on the RL WeatherTech DOES have those "clips"...which is GREAT). Same goes for Husky, but at least in every implementation they've had their patented sharp "Nibs" which does help hold them in place. Then back to WeatherTech...I really don't care for how WeatherTech continues to not cover the whole Dead Pedal (most of the time) or how they do not go very far up under the Accelerator Pedals...for us in the past it has been like a giant shoe scrape that scrapes off fall leaves and dirt that then fall behind the mat, getting ground into the carpet.

So I learned several vehicles back that a person can call Husky and any mat they have...they will send it to their engineering dept for FREE...and they will add the "Factory Clip Holes" for FREE...so then they really stick between the Husky "Nibs" and the "Factor Clip Holes"...and they have always covered the whole area to be covered...Dead Pedals, or like in the RL the whole rear area so there is no chance of anything between mats (just completely covered carpet).

Hope that helps! :)

449711 - WeatherTech DigitalFit FloorLiners - North American Parts - Performance Auto Parts & Accessories

Price seems to good to be true. With a coupon their WeatherTech Extreme-Duty DigitalFit Floor Liners ITEM# 449711 is $99.80 OTD.
I'd never heard of that company (when I clicked the link is says they are $103.64 for the Front Row Only). Far as I know WeatherTech in the past has always been the same price no matter where a person shops. At least they used to pride themselves on that. And I'd guess that would still be the same with paying for a 5 million dollar Super Bowl ad. ;) But other than that, looks like for only the Front Row WeatherTech website says $109.95...so not much difference.
