A quick thank-you to the gang here for all the answers and opinions on the RL.
I test drove a Black Edition yesterday and thought the ride quality was outstanding. I didn't notice any of the fit/finish items folks were complaining about....and, my salesperson experience was outstanding.
Shout out to Norm Reeves of North Richland Hills, Texas.
A couple of things that gave me pause:
1. The arm rest. I am broad shouldered - I wear a size 48 suit coat. In order to use the armrest, I had to put myself in an uncomfortable position. Essentially, the armrest falls directly under my armpit.
2. Engine. The difference in feel from my F150 was somewhat expected, but - it really, really felt different. A very serious and noticeable lack of low end torque. I suspect this is something that I would get used to....but, as I say - it gave me pause.
My wife and I actually "pivoted" on plans as we left the dealership. She saw the new CRV Hybrid and really liked it. So - we're now considering trading my truck in on a new car for her, I'll keep driving her 2016 Lexus RX350 and I'll take a bit more time to figure out what's right for me. This will buy me a few months (at least) to learn more about what will be available in 2024.
One thing I'm hoping for: The 2024 Ridgeline gets the same center console as the current 2023 pilot. The 2023 pilot uses a traditional center console/arm rest, which will be much more functional for me.
The downside? Well, the new 10spd transmission....I suspect the other two major changes for the 2024 Ridgeline will be the engine (moving to the new J35 with a DOHC) and the 10spd transmission.
Honda has been pretty spotty in developing their own transmissions - it's sort of a point of notoriety here on the internet (which, could be vastly overblown).
I can tell you, the 10spd that is in my F150 (and now in all GM trucks too) is the best transmission I've ever felt from a shifting and smoothness standpoint. I can only hope Honda is able to do something similar with the transversely mounted arrangement.
I still believe an RL is in my future......If anyone has info about the Honda 10spd in the pilot - I'd love to be directed to more information, my searches haven't borne much fruit.
I'll stay active here, I find the group to be considered, critical thinkers and I've enjoyed my time here very much.
I hope you all had a great weekend
