I had a Carlinkit 3.0 for 2 years. When I took it out of my RAM, and installed it in my RL, I noticed it was always locking up. I worked with the manufacturers engineers in China to come up with a software fix that has now allowed it to work flawlessly. It took over two months to get it right and, for my trouble and assistance, they comped me the unit. When I heard about the Autobox, I thought that for $64 I'd give it a try. Worked great right out of the box. Had it now for 3 weeks and never a freeze or hang-up. I do not use it for music so I cannot speak to its performance from that perspective. Get a free replacement and see if the next one works any better.
So is the main advantage of the Carlinkit 3.0, that is works with both Apple Carplay and Android Auto? I must have gotten the Carlinkit 3.0 confused with the Ottoscast that does both.

Just Apple. The Carlinkit 3.0 actually works great on new tech headunits. Because the RL's headunit is crap, the software needed to be revised to prevent freezing. I had zero issues out of the box on my RAM, Subaru, Volvo, etc. The Autobox can be had cheaper and appears to be very similar to the Carlinkit 3.0, but with a different firmware set-up that makes it work out of the box with our POS radio.

On the way back home from my trip, I plugged the Autobox back in and while Waze would work, it will not play music. I keep pressing the play button but it won't play.

I received my replacement Autobox yesterday, and it does the same thing. I then updated it, and it still won't play. Now I have 2 Autoboxes to return.

In my experiences with these CarPlay dongles, they are great for navigation, phone calls and messaging, but not so much for music.

Turn off your headunit's bluetooth or delete that connection from your phone. Should fix you right up.

You know, I had forgotten that I turned Bluetooth on in the middle of my drive when the first Autobox crapped out. I'll give that a shot with the new unit.
Since most of my issues with the Autobox seem to happen on long drives, I'm wondering if it could be heat-related? Maybe it would be better to mount the unit where it gets better airflow than taped behind a panel?

I have mine underneath the center console tied to the cable bundle that runs along the cup holders. I had a different adapter tied in the same place and drove from Virginia Beach all the way down to Miami and back without issue. I have yet to "test" this one on a long distance drive.

That did it. We'll see how long this one behaves.

I'm going to try the Ottocast, this Autobox has random drops.

Give us a comparison of both units.

OK guys...here's the bottom line. The AutoBox and the Ottocast are just about the EXACT same unit in different packaging. Same firmware but hardware differs slightly. Buy which ever one you can get the cheapest. Since my AutoBox was around $65 and the Ottocast was $85, the Ottocast is going back! Don't waste your money on a more expensive option. So there you go :)

That's what I like - simple and to the point. I am still really enjoying the AutoBox in the Ridgeline, and having the wireless charger in the small tray of the center console is an added bonus. It fits so perfectly. Thank you.

@securityguy, has the data usage on your phone gone way up since using the Autobox? I have used 28 GB’s of data this month.

I never check it since I have unlimited data but, yes, if you drive a lot it would make sense because you are using cellular data while using CarPlay or AA.

If you are using a music streaming service to play music, then yes. I have almost 9,000 songs on my iPhone, so I don't stream.

I never use my phone for streaming, only the data through the AutoBox.
