Does anyone have a step-by-step procedure on how to enable and operate this system? It all is very confusing to me. So far I have been unable to get it to work at all.
Post #13 in this thread has the directions to enable/disable auto high beams. Note: you must be traveling at 45 mph or more for the auto high beam system to function, and even then the feature is sketchy at best. You cannot use it sitting in your driveway.

The last sentence in the sidebar in that post says to "Park in a safe place before turning the system off or on" so I'm assuming you can activatie/de-acrivate it while not moving

If you have a 2020-2023 Ridgeline, you'll probably want to leave or turn this feature off since it doesn't work properly and probably never will.

If you have a 2017-2019 Ridgeline or still want to enable the feature:

  • With the vehicle on and the headlight switch in the AUTO position and while stopped,
  • Pull the turn signal lever and hold for 30 seconds until the green headlight symbol with the A in the middle blinks once - the feature is now enabled.
  • To turn the feature off, continue to hold the turn signal lever for an additional 10 seconds until the symbol blinks twice - the feature is now disabled.

Once the feature is "enabled", it has to be "turned on" which can only be done when the vehicle is on and while the headlight switch in in the AUTO position and it is dark enough outside. Once these conditions are met, you can toggle the feature on and off by momentarily pulling the turn signal lever. When the feature is "enabled" and "turned on" and ready to operate the high beams automatically, the green headlight symbol with the A in the middle will illuminate steady.

Admittedly, Honda's procedure is ridiculously complex for the average driver. It's MUCH simpler in Mazdas where you enable/disable the feature by checking a box on the touch screen. While the feature is enabled, pushing the turn signal lever forward allows the high beams to work automatically and pulling it turns the high beams off. Easy peasy!

My 2021 Chevy Silverado LTZ worked GREAT.... I sold it to buy the Ridgeline. I miss most of the features with that truck compared to the 2022 Ridgeline.
The company Grand Cherokee works flawlessly, as well. On a long drive, I was "trying" to trick it up and I couldn't. It was also amazing how accurate it was when approaching lighted, rural highway intersections, it would dim... seemingly as not to blind cross traffic.

The automatic high beam feature actually works well in the 2017-2019 Ridgeline. Changes for the 2020 model year broke it.
I thought we already established that fact.

Yeah, I thought so too, until I drove my wife's new Audi, and I saw how a real system can handle reflectors, etc without registering them as oncoming headlights.
