Is it safe to drive with the Vehicule stability adjust on?

just curious

The VSA is a major strength of the vehicle. Its operation is not very intuitive and the explanation in the manual only adequate. Its basic function is to prevent wheel spin by powering down the system. This means that the amount of power to the wheels is completely out of your hands (or in reality your right foot). ;)
As the X Man says turn it off only "when necessary" and that means when you actually want wheel spin and full power to the wheels, such as being stuck or to irritate your wife by spinning kitties on an ice covered parking lot. :D

Next week: the mystery that is VTM-4

Not sure about your question. When the VSA button is pushed & the Light is ON the system is then OFF. When the Light is OFF the system is always ON. When the Light in the dash blinks it is doing its thing for whatever reason. If Light was ON meaning the system was OFF( If you forgot to turn it OFF) when you restart truck the Light will be OFF but the system will be ON by default. Confused yet don't be to make it simple you always wan't the VSA system to be ON 99% of the time. So if Light is On the system is then OFF (You wan't system to be ON) The VSA system is always ON unless you turned it OFF by pushing the VSA button on the panel = Light ON. So you wan't the VSA system to be on for almost every type of driving situation you have. This is normal dry road, ice, snow, rain. Light OFF= VSA system is ON & thats what it should be at all times.

I hope I did not confuse jancor anymore but that is a simple way to explain it.
Many people think that by pushing the VSA button & the light comming ON the system is then ON. But the fact is when you push the VSA button and the light comes ON the system is OFF. This is not the way you wan't it to be you wan't it to be on for saftey. You would be shocked to know how many people do not know how their systems work. Before I purchased my 00 ACURA TL I was on the Forums just like this Many of people were confused about the TCS system. It was not about how the system worked but how the system was activated by the driver.

it is also "safe" to drive with the VSA off, as long as your driving safely, but just to be safe you had better leave it on.
Except for those rare occasions when it is safer to turn it off for a bit. ;)

no no no, its more logical that the light be off when the system is on. the vsa is an active safety feature like an airbag or anti-lock brakes, and I dont want a light on my dash illuminated all the time.

during the rare occasions when you want un-interupted power to the wheels and are fully expecting to slide sideways and spin, the light comes on as an alert for <[!]> extreme fun :D

Just wondering if push the button to turn off VSA will save some gas
Why would it save any gas? Unless it is activated (at which point you need it), it's not doing anything that the RL wouldn't do with it turned on.

While discussing the VSA with a buddy today, he said that most "VSA's" are only in a "ready state" and actually aren't "active" until one would see the VSA light on the dash illuminate.
Is this the case with our Ridgelines?
It sure was active alot today when the tires on the right side of the road were going through slushy ice most of the way.

I've found that I don't mind "blazing a trail" for other vehicles, as much as I did with my other VSA-less vehicles. If I know where the edge of the road is... why not leave a tire-track there for others, so they know it's safe to stay on their side of the road, and NOT feel the need to use the middle of it. ;)

For the record, in the two years (and three days:D )since I got my RL, I've had less than a handful of experiences driving with the VSA De-activated. But I feel safer as a result of the experience I got by "playing with it" in a deserted snow/ice-covered lot.

I urge ALL RL owners to do this at least ONCE, just to get the "feel" of the Ridge sans stability assist. Plus... it's fun!:D

It is the case, Pug. Remember, the VSA has only two things that it can control, the brakes and the throttle. When the light comes on, its doing one or both.

the sensors that monitor wheel spin are always active

the vsa cuts power when it senses wheel spin, and that means less momentum

one example of an appropriate time to turn off the vsa is while breaking through the snowbank at the end of my driveway. the reason is, you need some momentum and wheel spin to dig down through the fluffy snow to the traction surface and be able power through.

I'm interpreting "ready state" as monitoring such things as wheel slippage and yaw versus "active" as taking control of the brakes or throttle.

true but, I'm interpreting "active" as monitoring such things as wheel slippage and yaw versus "reactive" as taking control of the brakes or throttle.

didnt mean to create a debate, was just trying to qualify my use of the term active in my earlier post. ;)

here is a pic of me with the vsa off as im about to bust through the snowbank at the end of my driveway

Watch out for those trees! :D

LOL :) , busting through snowbanks is a weekly thing for me, far from hindenburg-level action.

If your picturing snow bursting up over the roof while im flying through the air after jumping the bank , you may (will) be disappointed. there will be no broken glass, body parts or anything of the like (only a broken snowbank and possibly camera)

shovel: good choice -as I have a tripod, but no in-car mount yet(thats what Im really working on)
