What's the chance the upgraded 19 Pilot Head unit would retrofit to G2

I'm not going to be the guinea pig on this one, I can live with the crappy G2 touchscreen unit on my 2018 EXL. Just wondering if the new unit with knob and upgraded touchscreen, for the 2019 Pilot refresh, would work if retrofitted on a G2 RL? Or would it likely have lots of incompatibilities in the harness and wiring?

Just curious, if the electronics wizards on here might speculate...…

And for what Honda'd probably charge for the unit, could likely get a better aftermarket solution if I were to upgrade...

being that the percentage of parts shared is high (between the RL and Pilot), I can only imagine the infrastructure behind it is similar. With the pilot having rear climate controls, I am not sure if the unit (RL) has pins to accommodate the sync. Again, I am going off of my '19 Odyssey and the knowledge of RL and Pilot being very similar.

I would have to say that given the frequent updates that will follow for the 'entertainment' system of the Ridgeline, it would be smart not to retrofit such an integrated unit. It would cost too much, potentially void the warranty, and may wreck electrical havoc when a hiccup happens. It is just too hard to do a breakdown when these units are too new (both hardware and software).

Ridgeline head unit is made by Clarion. Odyssey is made by Alpine. 2019 Pilot is Panasonic. All these units sharing the same harness, next to nil.

Less aggravation to just install a 3rd party system.

In support of @MtMan I'll add this...

Ridgeline HU is Clarion for BE, E, T, Panasonic for RT, RTS, Sport, RTL, and although the Pilot HU is a Pioneer, I seriously doubt that it's that easy, and I'll quote my previous post...

Considering it’s not economically possible to swap the 8” unit into the 5” unit vehicles, I sincerely doubt it will be possible to swap the newer ones into the older vehicles.
:nerd:
Honestly you probably don’t want this either, because then you would have say a $2000-$3000 upgrade available “only” at your local STEELERSHIP or any parking lot with poor security with a “rock or wrench” to open the windows and a “saw or crow bar” to open the dash.
:surprise:

T, E & BE owners would love that...
>:)
But I would love for someone to drop $2k and prove me wrong...

New pilot head unit in ridgeline?

Shot in the dark hoping we might have some Honda Mechanics (aspiring or otherwise) in the ROC. Anyone know if the new headunit from the pilot/passport would work in the RL? Only big issues I see would be programming for the new gauge cluster and in bed speakers......

Re: New pilot head unit in ridgeline?

Might be available in the 2020 ridgeline. If it's plug&play stuff like the cameras will just work. Maybe if the head unit detects the speakers, it will enable the bed speaker apps.

Best of luck if you decide to upgrade.
