i was gonna change my oil,but then i read something about a crush washer,is there one already on the nut where i change the oil or do i need to get one before i change the oil,is it something i need to change evertime i change oil,thanks

Welcome to the club...

A crush washer is basically a gasket. It is a "crush-able", soft metal that goes between the pan and the drain plug. You can reuse the old or you can replace it. You don't have to make a special trip to Honda to get one. You can order the Honda one online or you can get one at any parts stores. I don't know the specific size off hand. One made out of a sort of copper or fiber will work just fine.
 
There is not a washer integral with the nut. It is separate. While it is good practice to replace it at each change (unless you have a Fumoto Valve), I've often re-used the old one and have never had a leak.

Careful of the pan threads. Don't overtighten.

Personally, I never torque the drain bolt, preferring the TFAR method. ;)
 
I believe it is actually a "gasket" and not a crush washer (Even though it is crushed when used to the specified torque).

Google says this is an acronym for Task Force for Administrative Reform, but I don't think that is what you had in mind. :act006:

And Roofdog, if you think changing the oil is easy, doing your transmission maintenance is even easier (no filter to deal with) but will ask for a different crush washer. As will the VTM-4 unit. RL owners changing their own fluids will end up with three or four different diameter crush washers. Not a big problem, just takes a little planning, and definitely offers savings over taking it to the shop.

When I got a mag drain plug, it came with a plastic washer, I threw it away remove the old one from the factory one and replaced it with the new drain plug and I had no leaks.
