Here are the USA sales figures for the Ridgeline by calendar year:

2005: 42,593
2006: 50,193
2007: 42,795
2008: 33,875
2009: 16,464
2010: 16,142
2011: 9,759
2012: 14,068

Total Ridgeline sales as of 1/1/2013: 225,889

Re: Ridgeline sales by calendar year...

I hope Honda sees this as a need for an update and not justification to kill it!

I would think it is getting hard to turn a profit with those numbers.

Edit: After a quick check, those numbers seem crazy. Silverado/Sierra sales were about 575k and F series was north of 600k. It hard to believe that ford and Chevy sells more in six months than Honda sold in 8 years. I wonder if cab/bed/chassis variations could ever be profitable for honda? I could see myself driving a 2500 ridge That should compete with the 2500 avalanche.

Re: Ridgeline sales by calendar year...

Interesting numbers.

My guess 2013 will be in just passed 20-25k trucks, if the cost of gas does not go up much or goes lower. Just a guess

Re: Ridgeline sales by calendar year...

i would be interested to know how many Chevy Avalanches were sold in 2012 since that vehicle is comparable to the RL despite it size.

Re: Ridgeline sales by calendar year...

I will bet figures for 2013 stay flat or even drop a little. I do not find the disparity between the Ridge' s sales and Chevy' s at all surprising. I see Chevy trucks everywhere while Ridgelines are few and far between. The figures show dramatically how much of a niche vehicle the Ridge is. However, I have to wonder if Honda will stay committed to this line. I would be curious to know sales figures for other Honda vehicles.

Re: Ridgeline sales by calendar year...

I'm surprised gm hasn't dumped the ave with that low of sales...but I guess it probably shares cost with the silverados since its mostly only sheet metal that makes them different.
In April 2012, GM announced that production of the Avalanche would end after the 2013 model year, after 2011 saw a sales decline of 2.6% to 20,088 vehicles.[2] Production of the Cadillac Escalade EXT will also end after 2013.

Re: Ridgeline sales by calendar year...

Our local Chevy dealer seems to think something similar to the Avalance will make a debut after the new Silverado is brought to market. Who knows?

I like the RL and do see quite a few here in Denver, but they are mostly resales--not brand new.

Re: Ridgeline sales by calendar year...

It might have something to do with having a honda plant in central ohio but I see RL's everywhere. There are 2 other RL's that live on the same street as me in my subdivision and probably half a dozen at my office.

Re: Ridgeline sales by calendar year...

According to this blog http://blog.al.com/businessnews/2012/12/hondas_alabama_auto_plant_reac.html
they produced 21,154 RLs last year. That means there is about half-a-year's inventory out there. Will anyone know when the last Gen 1 RL is built? Will you be able to tell us, Joe?
The numbers I posted are USA sales so the number produced would be higher due to other North American sales (according to what I've been told by Honda there are no "official" sales of the Ridgeline outside of North America).

The article was written by Dawn Kent and she's pretty reliable (we've traded emails on a few occasions). Her numbers would be production numbers and I can no longer confirm, deny or publish production numbers.

This market: 385,000 population......lots of square miles
Two dealers
Inventory: each dealer seems to keep six new Ridgelines on the lot; my guess is that they sell only these in a year
Anectodal: I usually see fewer than five Ridgelines in a 3 or 4 month period
AND, always hoping to see more on the streets!

Don't forget the crappy economy, but I think we may now see why there have been no significant updates in the RL. Sales don't justify it. Those kind of sales numbers barely justify keeping the truck in production even with no updates. Those numbers are much smaller than I would have ever guessed. I'm very surprised actually how low they are and that Honda hasn't killed the truck.

What is frustrating with this is that Honda refuses to advertise the RL. I am an avid hockey fan and Honda sponsers the NHL. Watching a game on TV there are plenty of Honda ads but none promote the RL. Heck, even when Honda promotes special financing on their vehicles they never even mention the RL!!

The RL is such a great vehicle. I have so many people ask me about it and I am happy to sing its praises! Honda does not see it this way.:act043:
