2006 Ridgeline RTL Navi navigation just stopped working. Cd opens. Just says “please check your disc” or “please wait - now downloading software”. Today it was black dead but got error once ejected cd and pushed it back in.
I checked the software before it was so dead that no buttons work and it said get 2 cds one software one Navi.

will a cd fix it or do I need a new Navi head unit?

thank you,

Yea Zroger73, I was looking at the new black edition in white. But my insurance is already so high I have too many cars lol. I’m not sure aftermarket would work with the back up camera and the lcd for audio controls, map, clock etc.

Thank you Daniel, I called Alpine and they will rebuild it for $358. Guess I’ll do that. Thank you for the idea. I really miss the back up camera. I called the dealer and they can get me a new DVD unit for $4,500. Yikes!
I still have the anti knock out because a rat chewed the red wire under the plastic engine cover. Drives fine but my son said it prevents the timing from getting too far advanced. Dealer said $687 for (whole engine) wiring harness and $1,287 to install it. I bought a red wire crimp but it’s not much wire exposed and hard to work in the area.

No, it wouldn't - you'd need to remove the entire audio-navigation system and replace it with aftermarket stuff. You'll probably never notice, but one thing you would lose is the climate control's ability to adjust outlet temperature and fan speed based on the angle that the sun is entering the cabin which is calculated by the navigation system using GPS and sent to the climate control head.

I didn’t know that the whole dash unit could also be replaced. Thank you for sharing.

I sent the navi unit to Alpine in Ventura Ca. They still had the parts to fix it. It cost $350 and it worked perfect when they returned it. I bought the updated navi CD and installed the new CD and it’s working great along with the backup camera and all the systems tied to the Navi screen.
