I would like to learn more about these dash cams and Dogar adapters...I'm not real techy...Would like to use this on our 2022 RTL-E Ridgeline & our Can-Am Spyder motorcycle...

Nothing really to know. They just simply take the power supplied to your rear view mirror that is used for auto dimming, and tap it to include a USB power port so that you can power your radar detector or dashcam without snaking wires. They are only ACC power (on when key is on) so it isn't made for parking mode. Not every mirror has a modular plug on the back, though. I foolishly jumped the gun bought one for the Bronco Sport before it was delivered... I thought it would be the same as the regular Bronco, but the sport is hardwired without a plug in the mirror and a USB Power-Tap won't work. So, for your Spyder, you would need a modular plug that provided power to a rear view mirror... not sure the Spyder has that, you would know.

 

Does it come with a USB C cable?

 

Yes, it comes with 3 different usb cables (short, about 3 inches long or so) to plug into your device.

 

What is the voltage and amperage at the adapter (more specifically at the USB port)?

I ask because I want to put my Garmin GPS unit up there and the cigarette lighter adapter for the GPS is 5V, 1 amp.

 

I reached out to Dongar and they said the USB port is 5V and max of 2.4 amps.

 

Could not say but it runs my NextBase cam just fine...if that helps.

 

Does anyone worry about running a two channel dash cam powered from the rear view mirror with the Dongar adapter like the Viofo a229 Plus which I believe pulls 5V at 2A, 10 watts.

Is this draw too much for this circuit?

 

It only takes a minute to remove the plug and ck. My plug is a seven pin but has only 5 wires going to it and it has 2 rows of seven holes. mine has garage door buttons so it’s both live and switched.
