Another Stereo Wiring Question

Hi Guys,

Let me start off by saying this is an excellent site as you guys have already answered/solved many questions even before my first post. Let me also apologize if this has been answered a 1000x's but I've been searching for a few hours and can't find the thread that explained this. I just picked up my 2011 RT and I'm changing out the HU as I can't believe Honda still doesn't make an aux input jack standard on all models. I have a JVC HU from my last truck that has the aux input (for my Sirius radio) and controls my iPod. I picked up the wiring harness and antenna adapter kit from scosche and I'm not sure what to do with the blue wire on the antenna adapter. I thought I read somewhere that it goes to the remote turn on/power antenna wire? Please advise if this is correct or does it need to go to the radio 12+ volt wire. Also,it's been a long time since I've installed a stereo- the unit does not have Dimmer or Illumination inputs but the Honda harness does. Please let me know if I'm correct in just taping these up and leaving them unhooked.

I thank you all in advance!

Will do! This is a big weekend for me as the nerf bars, rear mud flaps and Westin bug deflector are suppose to be delivered today! I already installed an aftermarket trailer wiring harness on Tuesday (but after reading some posts, I wish I bought the factory harness), and plan on getting the radio and Sirius installed.

It is used to power the amplifier in the OEM antenna. You should connect it to a source of switched 12V power, i.e. the radio power. Expect to be less than impressed with the antenna, it sucks.

it can got to the blue wire which is for power antennae or the blue/with wire which is amp tun on. it only makes a difference if the car has the older style power antennae that went up in the air. If hooked up to the blue/white the antennae would stay up for as long as the radio is on.. with the blue wire power is cut off to it when you put in a cd and not listening to the radio.. as for the dimmer wire and illumination, they are not necessary.

so you can use blue or blue white, i personally would not use the ignition wire or switched 12volt since it is powered by turning the ignition on and not the radio.

Just to add a bit to Shovelhd's post - the Ridgeline radio antenna has a signal amplifier. It needs +12V to power it. If you do not supply +12V to that blue wire, the signal from the antenna will be nil. With power, it rises to barely satisfactory.

So connect it to a switched 12V wire.

Much appreciated, thanks for the help guys- I'll hook it up to blue/white remote turn-on.

FYI, I find the reception to be pretty good on my 2011 (I've read a lot of complaints about the reception), maybe they changed something? But honestly It doesn't make a difference as I only listen to satellite nowadays. I just wanted to make sure I hooked it up properly.

Don't do that. Use a switched 12V line with sufficient ampacity to power the amp. Remote signals are often less than 12V and don't have a lot of oomph.

The switched wire. It should be red but I don't know if you have a CEIA compliant harness or some cheezy eBay special.
