Not sure you can but this thread just gave me the idea of putting a coffee maker in Honda vehicles. Heck if they can put a Honda Vac in a minivan, why not a built in coffee maker? Imagine all the drive through savings... So save on gas with better fuel mileage and coffee to avoid stopping for it and burning idle gas.

Be the first Honda, I dare you.

Why wouldn't you just mount an inverter under the front or back seat and hook it to the battery. You could plug in anything you want.

Answer is no. Check the manual. I don't have it handy, but I think you're limited to under 150W even IN the plug in AC outlet. Items with burners or heating elements really suck the power.

I bought an 800W inverter that works great to power two crock pots at my tailgaters, but it absolutely must be attached to the battery directly and the truck has to run now and then or I end up with a dead battery.

I learned the lesson the hard way a long time ago on my '06 when we brought sloppy joes to my grandson's first birthday at a park shelter house which ended up having no power. So I thought, heck, I'll use my inverter (a much smaller one at the time) via the cigarette lighter attachment. Darned if I didn't blow a fuse and the sloppy joes ended up cold.

So....no......900W is WAY too much for any of the on board outlets, AC or DC. You'll need an inverter and will need to hook it up to your battery. With the cost of the inverter (probably $80 plus) and the gas to run your truck. You can buy quite a few cups of coffee at your local watering hole.

Yeah, I tried to run a crockpot (full of chili for a tailgate) a few years ago... didn't blow a fuse but no luck running the crockpot. I just bought a 1700 watt (2100 startup) generator-inverter that is perfect for tailgating and/or good to have in a power outage for the house too. Fits perfectly and securely in the trunk of the RL.
I'm thinking you gents 'got the wrong kind of crock pot! The "combo" types (also deep fry or steam veggies, etc.) will pull more juice, but a traditional crock pot is low power, and should be fine if I remember right. Check the rating label on your pot. The older round type should be under 150W, and are variable power depending on where you set the switch (e.g. 75-150W).... but the bigger (popular) oval types can go to 250W. (Combo types even higher)
The key is to have the food already hot (or at least warm) when you get where you are going, unless you can wait hours for it to get hot.... remember these are called "Slow Cookers"! Start with hot food, set 'em low ("warm" setting) & your battery will be good a whole lot longer. Remember, even those higher rated pots will pull less juice on their lowest setting... which usually keeps things hot just fine.

Dnick!!!

Well.....first thanks for the advice.

Believe me, we heat stuff up in advance as much as possible. However we travel to the games so we have to stay in a hotel. We try to nuke everything, THEN put it in the crock pot early, early in the AM. Then we get to the tailgater where the temp is sometimes in the 20's and 30's. So that requires high heat with the lid coming on and off and on and off multiple times.

Do to the size of our gatherings we usually need two full sized crocks. We have ONE that is rated at 150W or 175W and the other is older and is something like 250W.

Actually when we bought our last one, we specifically searched out the lowest wattage regular sized CP.

Anyway, next time you're at an Iowa football game, stop by, we'll have something hot for you!

YIKES! Tailgating in that weather has got to be exhilarating! I bet it makes the Chili taste just that much better (shot of tequila on the side?). I forget how much we take our warm sunny weather for granted (I guess our tailgating at QualComm is for sissies)..... I can see how you could use some Tim Taylor style "More Power" in that situation. I'm glad you have fun out there.... Go Hawkeyes? Our family back that way is of the Big Red variety, but they all watch from the couch several hundred miles away. :act024:

You won't melt any wiring. The inverter will simply stop supplying power if it is overloaded. To reset it, turn the ignition off.

I recommend one of these.

Amazing little generator. Not the cheapest by far, but pretty much the best in its class for many years. Very quiet, very reliable, and extremely efficient. You can find them for about $950 online.
