Has anyone purchased an extended warranty from someone other than Honda. Honda's $4,000 price seems exorbitant

Your best option is from Hyannis Honda for an excellent Honda warranty for around $900 for 7 yr/80k miles with a $0 deductible unlike the $100 deductible with YAA. A longer term will be more but still under $2k.

That is totally incorrect. I have owned 3 of them. The Hyannis extended service contract is absolutely a genuine Honda product.

It is okay to offer options but please provide correct information.

You're right....there is a bit of chicanery going on, if you go to THIS Hyannis Honda Extended Warranty site (note URL) and click on "Get Quote" its CarShield - pretty sneaky:

I've bought Honda Care through Hyannis 4x now. Just got my quote on Friday for my 2023 RL. I went with the 6/120K w/ $0 deductible. I assume it's ok to post prices on the forum, but the cash/carry price was $1070. I have the complete price options if folks are interested.

I feel like we've done well with Honda Care. On my wife's MDX it paid for itself like 10x over. Frankly, I'd never own any third party. I always felt like the dealer looked at the Honda Care as a sure bet for reimbursement and never found myself struggling to get repairs done with service advisors.

I wish Honda offered a 10 yr/80 or100K mile service contract for us folks who do not put a lot of miles on our vehicles. It was not available from Hyannis.

Is there an 8/120k ?

Yes, for $1415. 8 years seems to be the most you can get time wise, so essentially 5 years beyond the new car warranty, or only 3 years beyond the powertrain warranty.

Extended warranties are a sucker's game. Take the money you would have spent for the warranty and put it in a high-yield CD or savings account and leave it there until something breaks... if it does. You don't buy a Honda product expecting it to break like a FIAT, Chevy, or European vehicle.

High Yield CD? Savings account? This isn't 1981, inflation is about triple what you can get on a CD right now. If you have $1,000 to spend on a warranty it will probably give you that much value in piece of mind. My Honda CPO Ridgeline came with 100,000 mile warranty which has kept me from trading it for a new truck with a much worse warranty.

I just checked mine on 2020 RTLE : I paid $3k for 10 year and 120k miles so the total including the manufacturers original warranty is 10 years. I have 12 years and 120k miles on an Audi A8L as well. It was purchased from AUDI and issued by Audi. They are all badged products meaning the auto company is not the administrator or the underwriter.. BUT these are profitable products for the dealers and the dealers - my experience - stand by repair recommendations made by their service departments.

I went through Saccucci Honda on my 22 RL as their online ordering system was easier. I didn't have to call and pass CC info over the phone etc. HondaCare 8 year/120K $0 deductible, $1447.

I typically don't buy extended warranties but with the RTL-E's electronics, sensors, camera's etc, I felt better doing so.

Not sure if anyone suggested this yet but my insurance company (starts with a "G") charges me less than $5 per month to add 5 year factory warranty on the back of Honda's. Think I had to secure this within 60 days of purchase... just don't remember. Just a thought as it was an easy decision for me a year ago.

Now we get into the world of insurance…. My insurance agent “encouraged” me to move to an insurance company that starts with “T” and ashen the Fox ran in front of the car at 55mph at 11pm at night and blew out the bumper / grill / radiator / condenser and more the bill ( Audi A8L 4.0L T ) was $12k. But my new “T” insurance company did not want to replace damaged parts with OEM parts, BUT my Audi platinum warranty specified that all replacement parts must be OEM replacements…. And so now, if the new radiator fails and causes the engine to cook and Audi determine it’s a non OEM replacement that has caused the new $40k fail, am I covered ? I ended up having to send my Audi Platinum coverage contract to “T” and they reluctantly folded. Document every report is my advice. The biggest issue is where the auto and collision converges potentially collide.

This really bothers me. I don't buy extended warranties but I look at them in terms of a measure of expected reliability and this does not look good. I bought a 2022 and would have thought twice if I'd seen this ahead of time. I drive trucks and number one is long term reliability and whether it stands up to the job. I currently also own a 2011 Tacoma with 375,000 miles and no repairs, only preventative maintenance and replacement of tires, brakes and belts. This is still my main vehicle and my wife drives the Ridgeline. The Ridgeline a really nice vehicle but if it turns out to be expensive jewelry then it will be the first truck I unload before it becomes time to give it away, and it will be replaced with a Tacoma. Over two years ago the Toyota dealer offered me the price of this warranty as a trade in on a new Tacoma. Since then its cost me less than nothing since its now worth more than it was back then. Recently my Wife took it back to the dealer to look at two initial trivial problems with the sunroof and one rear window. It was a hot day and they put it though the car wash. Their was a hidden stone chip and the windshield cracked from top to bottom. Fortunately my insurance covers windshields with a $250 deductible but I wonder for how much longer. It cost $1250 to replace and several hours at the dealer. The windshield guy who I've used before couldn't come to the house because it needed dealer equipment.

Every insurance company I know replaces windshields with NO deductible - its a critical safety component. I've had them replaced in my wife's Durango and my Tundra with GEICO and State Farm respectively and never reached in my wallet....

Secondly, I wouldn't be alarmed by the discussions herein, some people just think extended warranties give them piece of mind and are worth it, some don't. The motor in your RL is the tried and trusted venerable VTEC 6 cylinder Honda uses profusely and I think you will be well pleased with its reliability.

I can't imagine why anyone who can afford to buy a new truck in this overpriced market would even consider buying an extended warranty. These warranty sellers only sell these products for one reason.....they collect way more in warranty sales $$$s then they expend in covering repair costs. Buying one of these warranties is like playing a slot machine with only a 60% payout. If you can afford a truck, you can afford the repairs. If you can't afford an unexpected repair, you can't afford the truck.

Because modern cars are not designed to last as long as the older vehicles and 20 years ago parts were much cheaper and an hourly tech labor charges were around $65-70 vs $160-175 today.
My 94 and 2001 Accord were very well built and reliable. My 7 months old RL is built and assembled by very different "lesser" standards and already was in a shop 4 times.
Yes buying a warranty is playing a a slot machine, but payout may vary from a pretty low to a very hefty one.
