What a long wait. I first checked on a canopy in March of '05. Then the promises of "in six months", or "in the beginning of Feb." Yada, yada, yada....
Anyway, it's on and I really like it. So do the "Boys". Nothing like dog nose snail tracks all over the inside glass of a spendy new toy right? Sorry. My dogs are animals.
I got the "Leer" and added the "Sports Package" which includes a "Thule" Rack and your choice of an accessory. I chose the "Load Stops" and tie downs. I build Custom Homes in Southern Oregon. My intent is to throw a ladder on top from time to time during my trips to job sites where I don't need to drag my whole full-sized truck/trailer set up out. The package also includes a cargo net attached to the ceiling for stowing this and that.
The quality of the unit is great as far as I can tell. I'm a pretty picky person. My background as a finish carpenter can be a curse at times.
"Leer" forgot to install the "Keyless Entry" I opted for. The Dealer has ordered it and will install it next week. It does work off the Honda key, so one less key on my ever-growing ring.
The canopy changes the looks of the truck dramatically. Personally, I like it, as does my Wife. Some will play the "SUV" card and dis it this way and that way. But, in the end, it's a fairly arrogant stance to tell others that what you think a truck is for, is right for all.
I have an open truck. It's 3/4 ton, it's diesel, it pulls like a sum b---h, and it's got a 12'x7'x7' utility trailer behind it most days. It also sucks fuel like flushing a toilet. In fact, the speedo has a race with the fuel gauge and wins most of the time! LOL Not really, but you get the idea.
I needed something inbetween. Something with some creature comforts. Something to take an Elderly couple out to look at prospective home sites. Something to keep a load of light fixtures dry in the dead of winter. Something to put the "Boys" in so they can join us more often. And something that cleans up nice for dinner downtown. My Ridgeline with a canopy does all that and more I'm sure.
So, for me, one more goody off the list. Wheels and tires are most likely next. Maybe the lift kit. I love the urban look with 20" or 22" wheels and low profile tires. But, for me? I need to get to work in the winter. Through snow on the mountain pass between Oregon and California, through mud on job sites and rainly, icy slippery days. I'm probably going after an "off-road" look of sorts. I'll post pics as things happen.
I was already down to the local sporting goods store looking at all the goodies for the "Thule" system...Hmmmm....one of those tube frame "baskets" might do well with an off road look.......What to do? What to do?
