I didn't have that problem when installing the Fumoto on my '07. I did have to be careful with the wrench, but I don't remember it actually hitting the pipe. Check out the pics and make sure your pipe (or shield) isn't bent.

It may be dumb luck or the varying thickness of washers but our valve appears to have indexed exactly 180° from yours.

 

I'm guessing that it's simply from what position the valve was in when the threads started to bite. So, far (knock on wood), no problems with my install and I LOVE how easy it is to change oil.

 

I remember things being snug but not actually hitting anything in mine.. I have the valve plus extender just as you..

 

I ended up using an extra crush washer so mine pointed down. What is this new S-Type? I don't see it on Fumoto's site.

Yes I had some problems with the installation... doubled the washer and was able to fit it in; but when the time came to change the oil, I couldn't budge the lever/handle to unlock it (i guess it has to do with the way the RL was lifted)... so, i said the heck with it, and used my Mityvac with no fuss or mess; and from now on, I will be doing the same without crawling under the truck... I will leave the junky fumoto in place, unless it starts leaking: Personally I would not recommend that valve to anybody if he has a pumping tool like a mityvac or similar; because it does do the job without any unforeseen aggravation like the Fumojunk.
