Honda has it locked down so you cannot. The head unit barely has enough power to handle the factory apps.

There is a hack out there, but the head unit is intergraded into so many other systems. Is it worth bricking your truck? Then having to pay the dealer to restore the software which you now have voided the warranty on.

 

Has anyone figured out how to make settings persist post-ignition-cycle?

One thing the system handles okay is Live Wallpaper, which you can set under the Android settings. There's no reason this shouldn't work, however you need to reset it every time.

 

Makes sense, but why have all the extra blank card screens?

I think they envisioned it to be expandable but realized it would open a can of worms and degrade the user operations with buggy 3rd party software.

 

The unit has a slow CPU, and low RAM and storage. My guess is you would want to save what storage there is for potential updates.

 

I'd like to have Waze on the big screen.

 

Use Android Auto and you can.

 

Sad they couldn't have put a better entertainment system in my $42k truck...
