Hi fellow forum friends. I have and 2022 Radiant Red RTLE that I "Chromed Out" and just recently I decided to Upgrade to the black HPD wheels unfortunate I got desperate and I overpaid by $500 as I paid the full retail price. Well go figure, College Hills Honda had five sets for the lower price and too late mine were already delivered last week. So with that said I embarked on painting the machined rivet look. I got this idea from the Honda build site, when you build a Ridgeline you can actually purchase a Black HPD package and the rims have the machined rivets (10) painted black. So I painted them with HVT plastic matte finish paint and also did wheel caps and emblems, no primer needed. If I want to revert to machined look I simply use denatured alcohol and can bring them back to their original state. Just waiting for the TPMS to come in this week. You can use the oem monitors but the dealer attempted and said the stems will be damaged, since the stems are on B/O it was another $50 more to get new tpms I went for it. I waited too long to get these rims on my truck. Of course the black lugs will accompany this new look. To achieve this look I bore a 13/16" mold using a paddle bit into a plastic stock about 1/8" thick, taped them over the rivets and the covered the entire rims with cellophane. I then careful used a razor knife cut on top of the plastic molding, cut out a 1-1/4"square of cellophane around the rivet and again used again masking tape around the rivet. The application was, one light coat and two medium coats, 10 mins or so apart and 1 hour to handle. Best to wait 48hours before you even lay a finger on them, and done! Any slight overspray around the rivets I simply used a clean rag, no terry, dampened with denatured alcohol and gently rubbed around the outside of the rivet being very careful not to touch the paint. Again, best to wait 48hrs.

The wheel caps is another post, if anyone is interested let me know. I removed the emblems and had to glue the emblem clips from the back with silicone and they are not going anywhere but I was not fully satisfied with the outcome so I ordered (4)new ones black and chrome one (08W18-T6Z-10002) and will attempt to spray them with the plastic paint without removing the emblems.

Oh, you didn’t care for the bedazzled look??
They look great. Nice job.
Zigzagman, Thanks, I tried one rivet and was very pleased so kept going. I did not care for that bedazzled look at all. For some reason I have seen HPD packages advertised on Youtube that have no machined rivet look so not sure if those are Passport Rims, if so, the offset is 55 not 45. The dealer would not guarantee a fit so I had to opt for these.

These are the passport wheels with no fake rivets

Hey Kev,
The offset on the Passport is 55 and on the Ridgeline 45. With that said the Dealers or Parts distributors will not guarantee the rim fit.
However I can’t understand why the Black HPD package is now showing the rims with the blacked out the machined rivets s I have done?
As evident on the Honda site, when you build a Black HPD Package.

hmmm that does seem weird but other members I believe have gotten the passport wheels on their RLsbecaus they have been easier to get than the RL ones. Someone would have to go and check on a ridgeline the actual wheel specs to see if the offset matches the RL or the passport. The passport wheels come in 2 sizes (black).
Kevin the Passport Rims on show a 55” inset which I would imagine it’s the same as an offset
The 55 would bring the rim in closet vs. the Ridgeline rims 45’s that was my reason not to go with the Passports that were available.
Again the manager at the parts department said they would not guarantee a fit or even the rims if according to Honda the part did not match my vin number.

what I am saying is that the Honda dealers have been putting them on RLs and selling them that way. That’s why an owner or two have popped in here and said that they noticed the fake rivets weren’t on their black wheels. The responses would be that the whees that came on their truck are passport wheels and not RL wheels
Got yah. And you are correct that is where I got my idea from. I saw a dealer selling and HPD Ridgeline on YouTube with the Passport rims and so I thought man those are what I want. Come to find out yes they were Passport rims.

as a dealer if your trying to add the hpd package and increase the price thousands and the RL wheels are on back order I imagine you’d go with the passport wheels as most people would not know the difference.
Yea what a shame. What a little research can do. I kinda found this out when I when Honda Parts Connection site and the site would state the Passport rims were not a fit. Had I been sold the HPD package with rims that are not technically OEM spec I would call them out and have them replace them. Maybe this conversation would catch the attention of any of our Forum friends that have purchased an HPD package with the Passport rims and would love to hear if they were aware of this.

I don’t think that the Ridgeline HPD wheels have been verified to be 45mm offset. I’m thinking the only difference between the Passport and Ridgeline HPD wheels is the presence or absence of the machined divots, the offset being the same 55mm.
Various Honda part sites including dealers like college hills Honda display the offset for each of these rims on the part description

I cannot personally verify, but the the HPD Passport rims list 55 in the description and instructions (download available on site).

But the HPD Ridgeline rims list 45 on the instructions.

What also makes me think the offsets are different is the bronze versions for the Passport and Ridgeline both have the divets and are cosmetically identical, and you can order the Passport version from most sites but it's virtually impossible to find the Ridgeline version in stock.
Farther,
You would not believe. One week into getting my black Ridgeline Black HPD wheels delivered College Hills Honda sent an email saying they had some in stock while supplies last. I called they had 5 sets. And fricken ouch! $500 less than the full retail I paid, tax and delivery included.

Looks great, GeeCee! Black wheels contrast nicely with your body color.
Thanks Boxman.
I definitely love the way they look. It’s a mind thing, it makes me feel like I’m stepping into a more aggressive ride once I step into the cab even though it’s no different than the 5spoke wheels I just swapped.
