The window sticker for my truck just says "audio system with 7 speakers", so I don't know if that's just base system or if it's an upgrade over something else. Four days after I bought my truck, I got back in it covered in mud from work, which is what I knew would happen, and part of the reason I just bought the last 2023 on the lot because they made me a good deal on it when they didn't have any used Ridgelines. I got a chance to play with the settings a little more today, and found exactly what's lacking - as in, listening to a song I play on bass, and being able to hear low notes and higher notes, but lacking mid-bass, so I suspect that an upgrade to the door speakers is in fact the answer I'm looking for. I just want to check and make sure it's not an issue with the crossover in the system first rather than the speakers, which is still seems like is the simplest answer.

Now here's me being a really bad influence. It's NEVER too late to learn to play an instrument. I tell people not to pick something because they think it will be easy, but because they think they will enjoy it, meaning it's fun, they like the way it sounds, or it's portable - I gave this talk to a friend of mine, and he decided he wanted to play harmonica. Now he keeps a full set pretty much within reach at all times, and some keys in his pocket at all times. He will randomly pull them out and start playing along with songs that come on the radio in stores, and it's hilarious, but also cool how many people say "I wish I could do that" - well, they can. Anyway, looking forward to seeing what else comes of this thread, and trying to figure out how to put the missing frequencies into my music.
I don't see it as a bad influence at all. I think it is good advice - especially the FUN part of it! Cool that you got a good deal on your 2023. Be curious to know when you change the door speakers and how you like the new ones!

Rode around today listening to the stereo. It has exceeded my expectations - am very happy with the truck stereo at this point. Amazed at the low notes this sub can reproduce with the bass correction signal from the Keyloc. Was a lot of work, but I really enjoy riding in my truck now!!!

I've got an RTL-E with the factory sub. I don't need a lot of output (I just want the foundation under the music), but the deep bass from it is really not that clean. I ended up cutting bass in the EQ to tame down the looseness of the factory sub.

Those plastic boxes are a big part of the problem. Guys will swap in other 8" drivers and things don't get a lot better.

Please don't drive in my neighborhood. I don't need to listen to your bass in my living room and my bedroom.
LOL, you have made me feel young again with that one, but honestly this setup is about balance and having ALL of the musical notes/information reproduced in the vehicle. As previously stated - this setup is not going to shake the car next to you - more about enjoying your own personal sound experience.

The dual 8 JL sub box just broke in, and the low bass was really sounding nice on the last road trip. Murphy is alive and well, haha. Decided, anyway, to try the Ground-shaker ported 10" enclosure. I added the same sub as what was in the previous box, one 10Wv3v-2 instead of two 8's. It just barely fit depth-wise, lol. The hole was a little bit bigger in diameter - I just centered the sub in the hole before screwing it down. JL specs out the ported enclosure for the 10Wv3v-2 at 1.25 cubit feet of air space. The ground shaker is 1.26, so it was a perfect match.

Gotta say, it sounds even better than the other box! Super excited about how good the lowest bass sounds/feels (not even broke in yet). Nice linear response on 30 thru 50 hertz notes with the Kicker key lock calibration and this box combo. HIGHLY recommend!!! The dual 8 box is a close runner up - after it breaks in (all the musical info is there/heard/user totally satisfied), but does not have the same impact/presence/wow factor as the 10 does. Hope this helps someone on the fence about this.
