You can find a "key fob" on Amazon or elsewhere, but then it needs to be programmed and the actual key cut. The dealer can do that, or an automotive locksmith, so you'd want to check out prices for that as opposed to just buying from the dealer. Some auto parts stores carry fobs also.

Do you actually need the key to be cut though? I haven't had to use the cut keys in a LONG time. I get it, in an emergency you gotta have it. But getting the cut is the most expensive part as far as I know. I'd be tempted to make do with just the reprogram to hold me over till the next car comes into my life.

Guess it depends (shrug)

Just FYI...
If you have AAA, they provide reimbursement for lost key replacement (amount depending on the plan you're on).

I have their premier plan, and coverage is up to $250 for key replacement. Last year, I purchased a new fob and key from my local dealer, and they cut the key and reprogrammed the fobs for about $210, total.

We needed a FOB for my wife's Prius. I got a cheap knock off from eBay, then one from Tom's key company and their programming device.

Device was easy to use, worked great to program both keys. The key I got from them works way better than the eBay cheap one.

If I needed to, I'd use them again... Just not sure if they do RL keys. You'll have to look that up

Agreed, dealer cut keys are ridiculously over priced... I do not recall ever using my 'key' in the year and half of ownership. BTW: hardware stores, and some grocers, have the self serve key cutting that will also do the (Mercedes style), side grooved keys for your Honda.. not sure of the cost, but have to believe, it is far less than you'll fork out at the dealership.

If your fob battery dies you need the real key. I wouldn't want to take a chance on not having one and being late to an appointment, or worse, stranded in the middle of nowhere. My G1 fob batteries lasted about 8-10 years, but my G2 had a fob battery die after about 2 years. And I want two so my wife and I can each carry one when we travel.

Why not just keep a spare battery for the key fob inside the car?
