Lights don't turn on with remote start?

I just purchased a '18 Ridgeline RTL-E and I was surprised that when you remote start the truck, lights don't stay on to indicate it's running. Did I miss a setting? All other cars I've had with auto-start always keep the lights on. With no lights and the truck being so quiet, I'm never sure if it's running.

Exterior lights flash in a group of 2 flashes in 3 cycles when you perform the remote start. I have my headlights always set to off. I wonder if they are set to auto, will they come on?

Re: Lights don't turn on with remote start?

Headlights do not turn on, even on auto mode. As stated, two sets of three blinks occur after successful remote start. You can unlock with FOB and that cuts headlights on, they will cut off after a minute or so.

Wished the headlights or at least parking lights would come on when remote unlocking at night. Common feature in most vehicles with auto headlights. I can’t find anything in the settings.

You didn’t miss a setting. This silent ‘invisidle’ is required in some states so they didn’t light anything up for us. A design oversight or deficiency the majority wants until resolved by TSB/update is called a FEATURE.

Congrats on the ‘18, got a ‘17 BE with an antique CD player you can’t get OEM, not that anyone but my wife buys them much anymore... Apple, Amazon, Pandora streaming...she wanted, ‘nuff said.

Just this evening I used my remote start across a crowded parking lot and had no idea if I was going to get into a warm truck or not. Turned out it did start so all was good. But I did not know it was running until I got close enough to see the "smoke" coming out of my exhaust pipe. I was thinking it would have been nice if Honda had included a small, red LED blinking light on the bottom of the mirror that could be seen from various angles only when the truck had been remotely started. Many vehicles have a red blinking light to indicate the alarm system is working so this method probably would not violate any regulations and most would not think it was anything other than an alarm system indicator. Maybe in the G3. ??

Spy’63, Is it like um, daylight when you tried tapping Unlock once after a remote start?
If so and with lights in Auto, you only get whatever outside lights to come on that would be activated by normal Unlock action. So having an amazing grasp of the obvious, no darkness, no headlights maybe? My BE at dusk turned headlights and interior light and unlocked doors with Unlock tap (parking s flash to confirm first) then after what’re timer period set, interior light go out, doors relock, then headlights go off at programmed setting time. This sequence can be repeated (Unlock) using fob) multiple times during the 10 min idle period. You can extend remote start a second 10 mins by repeating remote start (Lock, hold Start crank arrow 5 secs) and 3+3 flashes occur again. This won’t happen if you touch unlocked any door, extend is NOT impacted by Unlock headlight illum.

I have a 2023 Ridgeline RTL - when I auto start it, I have no idea if it's running or not. Am I missing something with a function with the control? I don't know if my truck is started or not until I get out to the truck to see smoke coming out of the back?

Is there a setting that I need to set so I know if my truck has started? It does not show that it's started when I hit the remote starter - so when I walk out to it, i have no idea if it's even going to be warm or not? I feel like i am over looking something?

Also, the heatwarmers are not on when I start it via the remote starter, is that right? I thought the heat warmrs and the heater are supposed to come on? What am I missing here?

Freezing in Montana......thanks!

The lights will not be on. The parking lights will flash when the engine starts and the climate control will automatically adjust to heat or cool depending on outside temperature. Seat warmers should be on if it is cold outside. I have found remote start is not the most reliable especially if you are inside. I have had a generic remote start on another vehicle that would start from 50 to 60 yards away even inside and the lights would be on to show it. Honda is a little behind on a lot of its electronics in my opinion.

I installed an aftermarket Remote Start with enhanced security capability to my RL a while back. It can remote start from anywhere via my phone app. It does turn the headlights on when I remote start it via my app.
