Hi Everyone. Has anyone had to do a timing belt service. Honda says it’s time for my 2019 Ridgeline EXL. At 110k? Approximately $1500can.Some people from other makes has done this also. Any recommendations?
thanks , Art

I'll let the more experienced owners chime in. I'd just be parroting what I hear on here, although I agree with most of it.

Did your MM pop a timing belt code (4)?

Yes it is a maintenance item at around 107K miles. You're driving a vehicle with an interference engine. That means that if the timing belt breaks, you have a ruined engine as the pistons will slap the valves. It ain't pretty when that happens. Bent valves, damaged pistons, etc. which means you rebuild the engine or have a rebuilt/remanufactured put in. Expensive to the tune of $6k to $8k these days.

If you are mechanically inclined you can do the job yourself. The Aisin kit is probably the most recommended as it is quality and cheaper that OEM. Comes with everything you need.

If you're not mechanical inclined than that is about the average cost at a dealership.

Of you could go to a trusted independent mechanic who will probably be cheaper for the overall job.

Be sure to add on spark plugs, water pump, tensioner, and valve adjustment that should also be done along with the TB. That bumps the price up a ways...
