Mileage Range Estimate

As others have said, don’t be concerned with the dash range display. I find mine to be a totally worthless feature. It apparently uses a long history of past usage to calculate the range, and applies minimal weight to the current MPG. For example if I towed a trailer for the last few tanks, then switched to non towing, the range estimator will show ridiculously low range predictions for a long time despite my getting much better mileage currently.

The flaw in this Honda design is that the trip reset does not reset the fuel range calculation, as it does for me on my Ford and Chrysler vehicles. This is one of my gripes about the Honda.

Near as I can figure, the range calculation is based on the average mileage you're currently getting. So if you've been making short trips around town and getting poor mileage, the range shown is going to be lower.
The range calculation on my ‘17 is based off the mpg of many past tanks of gas. If I tow a trailer for 2000 miles, then go back to non towing, the calculated range will show under 300 miles for many more tanks of driving, even though I could be currently getting 23 mpg. Because of the lack of ability to reset the range calculator (as I can do on other vehicles) , in my opinion the RL range display is a totally worthless feature. I pay no attention to mine anymore.
