Ottocast Question?

23 RTL-E...
So...I have messed around with it until maybe I got it to connect and play music without pausing 2 seconds after pressing play. We shall see.
Here's the question...why do I get the CarPlay icon on my home screen and not Android Auto? When I press CarPlay...the same display comes up as when I was using Android Auto. Do I actually care?
Gotta say...the convoluted mess I had to wade through to connect this thing is making me feel like just connecting with a cord. My only motivation is that Spotify sounds terrible through wired AA and I can't use Bluetooth with AA activated. I also try to charge wireless to avoid undue wear on the phone jack.
Thoughts are welcome and thanks in advance!

The choice of whether AA or CP pops up on your screen is determined by what operating system your phone has on it - Apple is Carplay, while Samsung, Google, etc are AA. That cannot be changed by any wireless dongle. I also tried to use the Ottocast Air in my Ridgeline, and I gave up to try another day.

The Ottocast is designed to work with both platforms, unlike some others which are limited to one or the other.

There is another member who has used the Ottocast without issue . I will try to find his post and his screen name so you could start a conversation with him.

I agree, that is strange. @AceRidge23 is the member who purchased the Ottocast and here is his thread.

There are a number of different products sold under the Ottocast brand, and some of them appear to be Carplay only. If I understand right they have the "A2Air and A2AirPro" which are Android Auto only, and the U2Air and the U2Air-Pro which are Carplay only. There is also a U2-X Pro that is supposed to do both, and more products I didn't bother trying to figure out. I have the U2Air-Pro and use it with an iPhone on my 2022 RTLE. It works, but its not perfect and I don't have enough experience with it to do a full review, or anything else to compare it with. It appears that there are updates/firmware versions for each of these products so there could be even more variability depending on that. I also not sure how many different implementations there are from 2017-2024 in the Ridgeline audio system and if there are any differences between trim levels. (with/without navigation)

Same here. U2-XPro displays Carplay Icon instead of AA with my Galaxy S23 Ultra. I have this adapter in my wife's Passport (she uses iPhone) and it's very buggy for both of us. Usually turning off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi fixes the stop/start issue, sometimes it requires a phone restart. If you want an alternative' I run the Carsifi adapter in my Ridgeline and it works flawlessly, but obviously doesn't support my wife's iPhone.

Appreciate that! It's really frustrating that something this simple (relatively) has to be this problematic. First world for sure, but it seems a simple technology that should be as easy as plugging it in. I am going to give it some time. If it actually works...I won't care what icon is displayed, but if it's going to require restarts or reconfigs ad nauseum...I'll try your suggestion...or go back to the cord.
NOTE: Looking at reviews on Amazon for Carsfi...seems like there's still a hit-or-miss component to it. All of these things seem to be a crap shoot...if you're lucky...it works.

Yes, the reviews are hit or miss. Carsifi was one of the first available and has worked great in my particular application (19 Passport to 22 Ridgeline RTL-E, 3 different android phones). I had one hiccup with it, contacted customer service, and had a new one within two days free of charge even though it was a couple years old at that point.

Update...after a convoluted series of pairing-unpairing-ignore this-allow that...it is working and working well. Connects automatically, allows all functions, sound is great (not sure if it's lower volume overall but there's a knob for that). I still have a CP icon rather than AA, but...first world...
Anyway...seems like a good purchase despite the idiosyncrasies.

I messed around with mine yesterday and I still get the error, "no internet available". I am fairly certain I need to delete my current wifi connection. I have it working somewhat through bluetooth, but it won't connect to the internet for maps, etc. It does work on our Kia without problems.

One more thing...my wireless charger now seems to work. I thought it worked early on and realized it didn't. Now...for whatever reason...it does. Same phone Samsung 23U...Otterbox defender case. I'm not sure how fast it's supposed to charge, but it is slowly charging. Still deciding if it's worth buying a pad to put down there for faster charging or just let this play out for a while.

Update about a week later...iffin' yer interested.
-Still shows ACP but not AA...don't care...everything works well...especially sound for Spotify, which was the impetus for going with wireless.
-Everything starts up most of the time, but I sometimes have to unplug the Ottocast and plug it in again...then it's fine.
I thing the concept of everything working all the time the way it's supposed to (with anything that has a computer in/running it) is anachronistic. When we bought new vehicles in the past, we'd go right to the dealer or mechanic if anything wasn't 100% the way it was supposed to be. Seems like now (this is in NO WAY limited to Honda or RL's)...stuff just glitches out sometimes and it's the way it is. Brand new computers have to be rebooted sometimes for no apparent reason (unless you're a total tech geek...then you might know). Seems like cars are just CPU's with wheels. Brings so good stuff to the table, but a whole new set of expectation parameters. Maybe it's me.
