You can purchase amber turn signal lenses that were standard '06-'08 at most of the Honda internet part sellers that are popular on this forum.
The Canda shipping might be a problem so call first.

Rock Auto has A/M lenses for about $106-$116 for the pair. I don't know how they compare to the OEM lenses.

I'm with you. I prefer the amber style.

 

I prefer the amber as well. I feel that the contrasting color is a safety feature.

My dealer, Sterling Honda in Hamilton Ontario is
considered to be one of the best Honda dealers in Canada.

Let me ask them.

Ironically the head of the parts department drove the same
Ridgeline as I am driving now, as a company vehicle.
The vehicle had some 23,000
kilometres on the clock when I purchased it, it rolled over
30,000 kilometres this past weekend, not bad for all of
three months of very comfortable driving.
There are days when I don't drive to my destinations
preferring to walk or take local transit.

There can't be "that" much difference in the wiring harness.

Ironically way back in 1967 had a then new Volvo 144 sedan.
(Damn that car was good!) And as the rear turn signals for
North American use were red, in keeping with the common
attitude that red means stop, regardless. Sort of dumb.

Ironically the same model in Europe had amber rear turn signals.

In those days it was a bit of a pain to order from overseas
however many moths later a pair of complete housings appeared, at my then
(and now long gone) Volvo dealer, with my name on them and at no charge.
From Volvo head office in Sweden.
Was a member at the time of the Volvo car clubs of Toronto and Hamilton
at the time and had requested the lenses on club letterhead...

These days the Volvo is gone, ditto the dealers and the people of
the clubs at the time. And Volvos are expensive upper
class vehicles these days with no redeeming features IMO.

What is a Ovlov? A Volvo that has rolled over on to its roof!

FMVSS #108 allows either amber or red rear turn signals. In 1999 NHTSA authorized a study "to determine the effect of rear turn signal color on the likelihood of being involved in a rear-end crash".

Here is the summary of that study:
"The principal finding of the report is that amber signals show a 5.3% effectiveness in reducing involvement in two-vehicle crashes where a lead vehicle is rear-struck in the act of turning left, turning right, merging into traffic, changing lanes, or entering/leaving a parking space. The advantage of amber rear turn signals is shown to be statistically significant. "

Makes me wonder why Honda made the change.

If you notice, Ford & Dodge only have red turn signal lenses. Chevrolet had amber for a few years, but is now back to only red.

I wonder why too.

When I was stationed in Germany in the 80's and 90's I had a Renault Encore and had the rear end wiped out. The tail lights and rear turn signals were red. The same model in Europe was a Renault 11. They had yellow turn signals. A little rewiring and all was good.

 

Although the header suggests the Ridgeline is still in First edition, have my doubts.


Anybody ether know of a source or perhaps somebody with
technical knowledge who could advise if retro-fit
rear amber/ORANGE turn signals can be fitted?

Amber Rears

The new to my Ridgeline rear assemblies were at the dealer next day.

Thursday had them installed, fairly simple operation, two bulbs were a wee bit dark so replaced them as well.

The price per left or right side was high yet different. $178.33 for the right, $182.35 for the left. Half hour to install and change the bulbs...figure let my dealer's mechanic do the work. Still with taxes and related left precious little out of $500.00.

The head of service will flog the old red ones for me and the money will go to the beer and chicken wings fun fest later in the year.

Have also ordered the bumper protectors from College hills Honda as well as the trailer hitch step. I am quite tall however a little extra boost to get in to the back bed area is always a good idea.

I need to talk with the local 3M Trim line rep.
Want a black thin stripe down each side, invisible
in the day light however at night is brilliant.

Problem is only police service cars have been
seen with this and almost always the plain
wrappers. There has to be a way! <G>

I noticed this the other day on an RL. Looks like another mod to add to the list..

 

Put a green bulb (or green hood/cap over the OEM bulb) in there, and it will flash yellow/amber :act035:
