I'm purchasing my Ridgeline this friday, but during the negotiations the sales person mentioned the Ridgeline would be discontinued in the future, when in the future they did not know. So, is it a rumor or fact, well the people at Honda think it's a matter of fact according to there employees, you may ask why would I buy a truck they plan to discontinue, I like the truck!

Kinda funny this subject came up again as I got an email from my dealer today and the first thing on it was a feature about the "new" 2011 RL and it was very in depth, called the dealer to see what they had on the lot....notta, zip and not sure when they would have one??!!!:act006:

Sounds like a meaningless comment by a typical sales person. Everything will get discontinued eventually, and we're all going to die! Absolutely true! When that will be, I cannot say. :act006:

My dealer has had a couple of 2011's on the lot since I bought my '10 back in July.

It's worth noting that the sales person is NOT in all likelihood a Honda employee. He (and I say "he" because, let's face it, guys, we're the ones more likely to blow smoke out of our a$$e$ when we don't know something ;act028: ) is in some relationship to the franchise owner—either as a salesman working on a combination of salary and commission, or less likely, straight salary.

Honda is very tight-lipped about their production plans—thus a lot of speculation about when a redesigned Ridgeline might appear, and at the same time equal speculation that whatever RLs you're seeing on dealer lots now are the last ones you'll ever see being sold as new.

Why would he blow that particular smoke in your direction? Maybe there's another vehicle he wants to sell you. Or maybe he wants to make you feel like an insider, as long as you stay with him—"You know, they're discontinuing these some time in the future, but I can make sure YOU drive out in one". Or a related thing, he's hoping to make the Ridgeline feel like a scarce commodity so you won't work him down too much on the deal—"Hey, I know there's going to be 5 other people walking in here looking for this vehicle, and if you don't want to deal, I'll sell it to one of them and you'll NEVER be able to get one."

There's a lot of psychology going on in those conversations, and a lot of it depends on creating the appearance that the sales guy has information you want.

But that's all past you now, right? Enjoy your truck, man! :act035:

My daughter's neighbor, a Honda mechanic, also said the ridge is going away after the 2012 model. He also said that that might be a rumor but they're reducing repair part stock.
I asked him if there was any plan to bring out a pickup on the Element design (which I've heard) and he looked kinda surprised and said that he'd heard a rumor.
Who knows with car makers, eh?

i hope they don't discontinue it i just traded my 01 tt roadster for the ridgeline ha! just had to mention it when i saw your (exa4) pic.
I had a '02 A4 3.0 and wanted to trade in on a new TT, but I needed a pickup. I really like my Ridgeline, but I loved that Audi. Tons of fun to drive, and fast.
Now I'm thinking of trying to find a good S2000. I'm getting too old (65) for this stuff though.
Oh well. :act006:

That could also mean that:

a) The Ridgeline doesn't need a lot of repairs, and/or

b) The new Ridgeline is a significant new version that has lots of changed parts, which will be stocked later.

See how easy that was to use inadequate information either way? :)

Those thoughts crossed my mind as well.

well i have a pretty good source on this subject. and as much as i think honda should keep the ridgeline i know that they will be discontinued within the next 4 years with no plans of replacing it. it has to do with federal safety regulations for i think model years 2014 and later regarding the frame structure. to fix the problem would result in a complete redesign of the vehicle and honda isn't selling enough trucks to warrant the redesign. this sucks. so people, love your ridgelines while they last

Well, I'd love to say "Welcome to the ROC" and maybe you sincerely believe that (and the other doom-saying post you left), but that sounds incredibly vague.

i truly love the vehicle and i think honda should try to do something to keep it. it is an exceptional vehicle. but i can't discredit my source at all. i don't want to be a party pooper at all. like you i hope something will change to keep the line going. if i hear anaything diferent i will definitely post it. don't blame honda again this hapens to be the federal government doing their best as usual...

Hey cjkcustoms, I also love the RL that's why I bought one. Thanks for the insiders tip. Please allow me to paraphrase: an unnamed credible source to whom you give no specific qualifications for auto industry prognostication has confidentially provided you with proprietary information that sometime between now and 2014 Honda will shut down production of the Ridgeline due to a federal goverment conspiracy related to yet to be made change in structural safety regulations for RL frames . :act047:

I am alarmed, disappointed, and shocked. I'm thinking about writing to my congressional delegation. What's happening to democracy? Thanks again for the information and keep it coming. :act035:

Yeah. RL has one of the most rigid frames and gets very high, if not the highest, safety ratings, yet it can't meet a new rule. If so, then every pick-up will need to undergo the same redesign and this would be a major news story.

I don't believe this "rumor."
