I’m coming up on my first timing belt service on my 2G Ridgeline. I will be doing this myself as I did the last two of my 1G Ridgeline so, be cause money is a bit tight do I need to change everything or am I okay to skip on getting brand new timing tensioner “14520-RCA-A01 $155”, timing belt adjuster “14510-R9P-A01 $156” and timing idler “14550-RCA-A01 $55”? Mind you I’m doing this myself, Honda quoted me just under 1k for the service but they did not mention these parts would be changed by them and if I get these parts they would be about half of the cost for everything I need. Any thoughts appreciated.

Agreed with this. OE kits with idlers, tensioners, belt and water pump are your friend. Seeing as you only do this every 100 to 120K miles it just makes sense to me to get it done right while you are laboring.

Thanks for all the feed back and I will probably just go ahead and change it all out but not sure about using aftermarket parts for the timing belt.

If you are in it for the long haul and can afford to do so, I would suggest OEM parts for the timing belt assembly. On the GenI, just about the only reports of timing belt failures have been on ones that have been changed previously rather than original timing belts failing. Of those failing, it seems that most have been non OEM parts.
