I had a 1st. generation Ridgeline for 5 years without any transmission issue. Now I have a 2018 Black Edition . I travel to Las Vegas twice a month and a couple of trips during summer temperature around the 90s to 100. I had a couple of transmission overheating issues. So I decided to replace the transmission cooler to an after market and bigger size. So far no more transmission overhearing issue and shifting more smoothly. Just want to share my experience.
Were you towing something?

I have a 2017 RTL. 106000 miles. During that time I've experienced issues with the rpms surging slightly at low throttle. Changing out the tranny fluid when it occurs fixes it. I've change fluid 3 times. I don't tow and rarely haul stuff. The other day my temp warning started flashing and the tranny starting shuddering a bit. I was close to home so got home and parked it. Read this forum. Ordered and replaced both tranny fluid and filter. Test drive tranny shifted better than ever. Today, warning light again. I'm going to make appt to see dealer about the tsb. Aside from that any suggestions. Is there possibility cooler is plugged? I haven't done cooling system or belt replacements, any chance that adds to the problem?
Thanks

Does it have a cooler?….FWD?

I'm going to admit my ignorance. It was a flashing mil. I just pulled the code. P303. Not sure if the dealer messed something up in recently doing the fuel injector replacement or if I messed up something doing the spark plugs a while back. Been looking for the cylinder layout and firing order to find #3.

See post #42 in this link.

Cylinder 3 is rear bank on the far right looking at the engine (drivers side). A flashing CEL means a lot of mis-fires are occurring. It’s important to know what other codes, if any, are being reported. I would take it back to the dealer who will likely charge a diagnostic fee but you‘ll know what codes are being reported. If it’s bad fuel injectors again the dealer needs to run specific tests to verify bad injectors. If only cylinder 3 is mis firing, swap the coil pack with a good cylinder to see if the problem follows the coil pack.

thanks. So for cylinder 3 being the number of the cylinder in the profile. Back right standing in front of the engine.
But is that the right cylinder or is cylinder 3 the 3rd in line in the firing sequence?

Cylinder location:
Rear bank 1,2,3 passenger to driver side.
Front bank 4, 5, 6 p to d side.
The DTC reports cylinder location. I would highly recommend taking the vehicle back to the dealer for diagnosis. If it’s something they messed up while replacing the injectors, the last thing you want to do is go in and leave evidence you’ve been in their trying to fix it yourself.

Look at the link in post #205 above, then go to post #42 with the link......a pic/diagram is worth a thousand words. 👌

thanks. I had done that already and understood the numbering of the cylinders.
However I read somewhere that for the code P303 the reference to "cylinder 3" was not its number, but the placement in the firing order. which would mean cylinder 2 in the firing order is the misfiring cylinder.
Thoughts?

My 2017 ridgeline with only 19000 miles was sitting all day, and as soon as I started it up the message pop out. I think it is more of a sensor problem than a cooling.
Welcome to the club @m77389!

I’m sorry for your issue. But you don’t say what message you saw? This thread might provide some information and insight into the transmission in your truck. There are plenty of people here that do NOT have any of these issues — this might help you determine which side of that line you’re on.
