Since the wireless charges are transformers with primary and secondary coils, adding a little metal might help the coupling between them. I think they operate around 100 kHz, so ferrite might be best.

Cheers

Just an observation..........anecdotal experiences are just one persons opinion. I noted elsewhere I drive for the local Honda dealer. Doing dealer trades and such. I have experienced a much better charging experience with 2024 Honda's over the older ones.

On older ones I've had them barely work at all. On 2024 just toss the phone on the charger and it works.

Have you driven the new Pilot? Some owners are still having problems with the wireless charging pad either not working or it takes forever to charge the phone on it.

Thanks for the question. Thinking back no I do not believe I have drove a 2024 Pilot yet. I do recall the charger in a 2023 Pilot being finicky at best.

My recent experiences with the chargers have largely been with the CRV's. Odd it would be so different.

My 2019 Odyssey had no issues with the wireless charger like the RL does. I took both apart to get to the details and they are a different part, although both made by LG. I think they just used a poorly designed charger for the RL and some other models which does not work well/consistently.

I didn't have a wireless charger in my previous vehicle, so I installed one of those under desk chargers in the console area, this one from Amazon KPON Invisible Wireless Charger - 30mm Under Table Charger, along with a SAMSUNG Super Fast Dual Car Charger and a Dongge 12V/24V Fixed Thread Cigarette Lighter Socket Extension Cable tapped into 12v, I could place my phone with a case on just about anywhere in the console area and it would charge every single time.
The KPON chargers a quite big so I need to see if there will be enough room to do the same thing in the RL Charger area.

If anyone has their shifter out it to measure the size of space the under desk Charger is 4.1“ * 4.3” * 0.5“.

For iPhone users, Apple just released iOS 17.2 which:
  • Fixes an issue that may prevent wireless charging in certain vehicles
It will be interesting to see if this update has any effect on the Ridgeline charging issue. I can't test as I have an 2017 Ridgeline.

Unfortunately, it changes nothing. That was a patch fix for GM and maybe some others that Apple broke recently. Nothing to do with our poorly manufactured chargers, so it seems.

I have a 2023 Ridgeline we got in March. The charger basically hasn't worked since day one. There were a few instances where the phone was placed on it just right and it did charge, but mostly the green light comes on, then within 10 seconds starts blinking.

There was a time recently, within the past 2 months where I charged my iPhone 15 successfully about a half dozen times in a row -- that is 6 consecutive times I drove someplace. I thought great!, I found the sweet spot. Then last week, went to charge it again and placed it on the pad exactly like I had been and nothing. Fudged with it a bunch, moving the phone, trying different angles and such. Nothing.

Nothing with my phone changed, still in the same case it was in when the charging pad worked. The Honda charging pad is a piece of junk if you ask me. A nice feature of the vehicle that you can't use, and they should make it right.

Recent RTL-E owner (3 weeks now). Was excited to have wireless charging capability but quickly realized its a crap-shoot (maybe 30% of the time) if it works, even with my phone case removed. And its an older SE model iPhone with no camera sticking out. If I worried about charging then I'll use a cord. You would think someone would come out with a plug in play replacement. Doubtful that Honda ever will. Otherwise I really like my RL.

Same here, 2 month old ‘23 RTL-E with a non functional wireless charger. For now shut it down, looking for information of a potential fix or retrofit using the same pad with new guts (Polmxs 15 watt charger from Amazon or similar, picture found here on another thread)

Honda lists this wireless charger as a feature right on the window sticker. It's junk and doesn't work at all. It's a know issue and as far as I know they haven't taken care of it. How many of these non-working things did they install in how many vehicles? Honda wants $200 or so just for the charger, if it wasn't installed from the factory. Honda should either replace every poorly designed wireless charger they installed at the factory or pay each owner at least the $200 they want for it if you buy it from them.

I charge my iPhone at home using a $18 Amazon wireless charger. It works perfect every time, never had an issue and my phone has a case on it. But the junk Honda unit wont charge the same phone with or without a case. It wont charge my girlfriends phone either or any phone I've put on the junk Honda charger.

Yep they know about it, they won’t do anything about it and it’s just too darn bad for the consumer. When I bought my 2023 black edition, it was one of the things that dealership was selling me on. The entire time Honda knows they don’t work, Honda completely ignores it and Honda is not going to do anything about it. Pretty much screw you when it comes to that deal. Honda really doesn’t give two cents about that charger and the fact that they ripped everybody off concerning it. It’s almost like they’re daring you to do anything about it.

Some of them work with no problems. We have a 2023 RTL-E built in Oct/2023 and our wireless works every time we lay a phone on it. My wife and I both have Iphone 13 Pro models with Otterbox Magsafe cases. I read about this problem on this forum before we purchased our truck so I tested it on the truck that we purchased before buying it. We took delivery of the truck the week before Thanksgiving (2023) and the wireless charging has never failed to activate when we have laid either of our phones on the mat. I don't have a clue as to why ours always works and others don't but it does (every time). I hope that Honda comes up with a solution for the ones that don't work. It has to be very frustrating for owners of the defective charging mats.

This is encouraging, will claim on my ‘23 RTL-E (9-23 built, purchased 11-‘23) on my first maintenance / oil change visit soon 😊

I'm honestly glad that your RL's charger works like it should. Mine does not. I bought my 23 RTL-E mid Sep/2023 and the build date on mine is Aug/2023. So maybe Honda upgraded/fixed the wireless chargers some time between Aug and Oct 2023. Just for info, my phone is an iPhone XR, my girlfriend's is an iPhone 15. The wireless charger in my RL has never once been able to charge either of them, with the cases on or with cases removed.
