Bummer on the flex plate (Drive plate). Interestingly enough that plate in the MDX (26251-RYE-E00) , is the same one in the G2 Ridgelines.
I presume you are going to just use the G1 flex plate?
Yes sir that is my plan.

Unfortunately @Hashirama Senju I've only seen a "limited" number of J37 Swaps, and non of those members seem to be active any longer.

Thank You for continuing to follow up and document such issues as it might will be helpful for the next member who attempts it.

Best of Luck, and Keep Documenting
Thank you I will keep u guys posted.

I own a 2020 TLX with the J35Y6 and it has spun a rod bearing(semi common failure for my particular model of TLX i guess). I've asked my dealership if any of the other J35Y6's in Honda vehicles would fit as a replacement and she didnt have a solid answer and told me to refer to LKQ. LKQ's response was that the only engine that will fit my vehicle is from '19-'20 TLX. Can anyone tell me if any of the other J35Y6 from the ridgeline, passport, etc. would be a compatible swap? Appreciate any help I can get, thanks.

Totally understand that, my thinking is that LKQ's approach is "the only drop-in replacement with no funny business" types, and maybe there is the possibility that the differences are in things like intake manifold, throttle body, and other smaller parts that can be swapped over from the original motor...

If you are looking for the J35Y6, here are the vehicles that came with that exact engine assembly.

2015–2020 Acura TLX
2016–2022 Honda Pilot
2017+ Honda Ridgeline
2018+ Honda Odyssey (North America)
2019+ Honda Passport

Not sure why they would say only the TLX J35Y6 would work, all J35Y6 engine assemblies are the same. You would need to keep your mounts, intake and exhaust.

That's why Honda have engine codes, J35Y1, Y2, Y4 etc etc. The last digit indicates if there was any sort of change to the parent (J35Y) model. That is the key for seamless swaps! Make sure any engine that you look at buying is stamped J35Y6. 🍺

That was exactly how i was thinking, I have a wee bit of history of online forum discussion about integras(team-integra.net&honda-tech.com); swapped my 94 LS 4dr b18b1 to b20b, then later owned 2 GSRs with the b18c1 if there's any fellow teggy lovers here lol.

Are all of the j35y6's subject to the bearing failure? I've only seen cases of TLX so far, almost entirely in the '18-20' range.

Is your car outside the 3/36 warranty period? Or in your particular case, the 5/60 powertrain warranty?

Acura advertises 100,000 powertrain on certified pre owned, which is what my car was when purchased. When this whole thing started, I was told in person at the dealership, warranty is only 70k. I am literally just under at 69,xxx. But because I did all of my own maintenance and did not save every single receipt(missing one receipt for a purchase of 3 5qt bottles of oil), they are telling me its not covered under warranty, so I presented my case to National Center for Dispute Settlement as my last ditch effort at getting Acura to honor their warranty.

That makes absolutely no sense. Even if you had proof of purchase, there's no guarantee you used those fluids on that car.

I buy in 5 quart containers and use the same oil on my Pilot and Ridgeline. Wonder how they would treat that scenario?

If you paid by credit card, you should be able to pull up the statement that shows the purchase, but if you buy at WalMart like me, there'll be a bunch of other items on the same receipt as the motor oil. I don't know if you can get a copy of a receipt or not.

It is very similar to getting billed for parts and labor on things that a mechanic/dealership may fail to do. Not a real way to audit anything.
If maintenance is done by the person, Basically all the information that appears on the dealership invoice is what the DIYer needs to have when submitting these claims.

I use the same oil and filter in both my G5 Ody and my G1, despite the higher frequency and more qty in the Ody.

Until the warranty period expires, it is always best to be meticulous if self performing the maintenance, if not, the dealership is the best route. .

I once had a 89 Chevy Celebrity Eurosport Station wagon and changed the oil in it every 3k miles. At 55k the engine block sprung a antifreeze leak and I nursed it back to Pa from Mass by adding antifreeze regularly (about 3 times so not bad). When I took it to the dealer and asked them to look at it GM covered the whole engine short block r/r on it. They said it was because when the mechanic opened it up and sent pictures to GM that it looked like new inside. It was the cleanest engine they'd ever seen in the dealership cause I was religious on changing the oil at exactly 3k every time. Free engine. And it was out of warranty.

What does 'meticulous' look like?

Anal record notes over the years for every service done at home or an indie shop? Done. But I don't keep receipts when I buy oil from WalMart along with other groceries at the time. That's absurd.

Is there a unique reference number on each container of oil used you could record? I don't think so. And besides, anyone (home maintenance or dealer) can pencil whip whatever to show compliance with the maintenance requirements.

So what exactly are they looking for to satisfy the warranty claim?

If I am keeping 'meticulous' records, then I would keep pictures of items used in my spreadsheet along with receipts. Something that I can show them. Yes it is silly, but if I am trying to get my butt covered, then that is what needed.

In reality though, My G5 Odyssey has just around 110K on it, barely 4.5yrs old. Aside from the timing belt recall, I have not had to bring it in for any repairs or warranty work and I still continue to do all my maintenance with not a fear of voiding a warranty. Now that I have successfully blown past much of the warranty items, I am comfortable.

The safest bet is to stick with a J35A9 from a 2006-2008 Ridgeline or a 2006-2008 Pilot AWD (the 2WD versions had a J35Z1 with VCM). Anything else either won't work or will present unknown challenges.
Please elaborate. I want to know more.

Why would having VCM make the swap incompatible? Cylinder deactivation is not purely mechanical, it is primarily electrical. Subsystem of that is the valve closing by solenoids on the camshaft side. Thus, essentially, the block and cylinder heads should be compatible.

So far, below are the only blocks that were equipped with VCM, and the J35Z8 ('11-17 Odyssey) is not equipped with VCM, though Zroger mentions that the J35Z8 has VCM. Normally he is pretty accurate so I want to know if the Wiki page is incorrect.

J35A7 (2005-2010 Odyssey EX-L, Touring)
J35Z1 (2006-2008 Pilot FWD)
J35Z2 (2008-2012 Accord (non MT), '13-'17 RDX)
J35Z4 ('09-'15 Pilot)
J35Y1 ('13-/17 Accord V6)
J35Y4 ('14+ Acura RLX)
J35Y5 ('14+ Acura MDX)
J35Y6 ('15+ TLX, '16+ Pilot, '17+Ridgeline, '18 Odyssey USA)

VCM Video:

VCM Operation: 404页面

VCM manual deactivation: VCM Muzzler.

Hi I'm looking for some information. I see that you're very knowledgeable.
I have a 2007 ridgeline J3.5 A do you know if a 2007 saturn vue engine can be used or can you tell me an identical engine that can please?

The identical engine to your '07 is a J35A9, which is also the engine in the 2006-2008 AWD Pilots.
The Saturn Vue engine is essentially the J35A5 engine from the 2003-2006 Acura MDX.
