Guys, I have a 2009 Ridge and every once in a great while, my oil light will pop on for about a half a second. Typically this happens after I've been on the highway for awhile and have gotten on an off ramp while decelerating. Has done this since I got it, but only does it maybe 5% of the time.

This is the message that reads that the oil is low, but the oil is not actually low when I check it. And it just blinks on for about a half a second (and chimes the normal chime for new info, just like the low fuel).

Anyone else had this?

Thanks :act024:

Could just be that the oil level sensor is tripped momentarily for some reason under those circumstances. It's certainly not normal, but I have to think that it's not really something to be worried about as long as you're absolutely certain that the oil level is fine. For peace of mind, you may want to take it to the dealer and have them check it out to give it a clean bill of health. If it does end up being an issue in the future, you'll have the record that it went to the dealership and they said that nothing was wrong.

Well there ya go. Looks like it's about an hour's worth of labor at best. I'm sure the part is pretty inexpensive as well.

Guys,

Just wanted to follow up on this story. Here it is over 6 months later and I have not replaced the switch yet. The notification has come on a little bit more, but still a very small percentage, and it just blinks on for a second then off.

I think I may just wait until it stays or comes on at a more frequent interval. Thanks so much for the help though

Just a really quick look because I missed this the first go round. It was my understanding the switch malfunction from the TSB resulted in the light staying on much longer than a half-second or so. That combined with the original description (highway, downhill, hardbraking, offramp) from OP makes me wonder if the switch is actually OK and the combo of highway driving (lots of hot oil up in the motor) and the downhill braking hard on a ramp starves the oil pickup momentarily. In racing they install flow restriction baffles in the oil pan to stop this problem.

Just for fun, where possible, maybe try decelerating some way before the exit, and using very light braking, in a scenario where you typically would see the light come on. I might also try "slightly" overfilling the oil and see if the occasions where the light comes on diminish...but you might be uncomfortable with doing that.

I always thought the oil light on the panel was a pressure sensor reading. That would tell me the oil pressure is below spec (or at least the sensor thinks so). This is another case where I would really prefer to have a gauge instead of an idiot light so I could actually monitor the oil pressure/temp to see if there's a trend or blip in the actual readings.

(info from my 2008 OM and FSM)

Replacement of the switch looks pretty straightforward:

Agreed, I pressure gauge would be much more informative!

On 2nd thought, that oil pressure switch may not be as easy to get to as I first thought. I think it's the part with the vertical black and gray sheath coming down to it hiding behind the green colored connector in the pic:

That image is taken with the RF wheel removed. I'm not sure what the green connector goes to, but it looks like getting to the oil pressure switch would be easier if that were removed.

Yes, I have a 2009 Ridgeline too, same symptoms, I will bring mine in but in the meantime I have to drive it, did you find out anything?

Yes I have the same year having the same symptoms, I'm going to bring mine in. Have you gotten any answers?
