Took my truck to the dealership last week for a 1B service which is supposed to include a tire rotation. Invoice stated all tires are 8/32 and so they didn't rotate them but they balanced the front ones and adjusted pressures to 34 psi. They claim to have serviced the front and rear brakes but it seems silly to me that they wouldn't have rotated the tires while they had them off. Any thoughts? I am wondering if I'm being ripped off and they haven't bothered to even inspect my brakes. The cost for this service is $218. The truck is at the dealership today having warranty work done and I'm wondering if I should make them rotate the tires. I think I will be taking the vehicle to a private mechanic for future work.

Usually you can tell a wear difference between front and back tires, but if the dealership felt there was no need in rotation then its probably too early to rotate. Check them at your next oil change. We dont know how many miles she has, how often the tires have been rotated, and so on. Its really her judgement call to take it back for rotation, do them herself, or just live with it till next inspection

IMHO...when in doubt, rotate. I have never had tires fail on me because of uneven/bad wear. Of course, I keep an eye on my tires, and if I notice any uneven/wierd wear, I have them rotated, and have the alignment checked. I have never had any uneven wear on my tires on my RL and I plan to keep it that way. Remember, the only thing giving you control and keeping you between the ditches is literally, like folks like to say, "where the rubber meets the road". Personally, I don't think folks pay enough attention to their tires/pressure/wear/tread/etc. Doesn't hurt to have them rotated.

Getting good tires and keeping them in good shape is a small price to pay to keeping you safe. If you are not sure if you need them rotated, or you think it may be to early, I say, so what?!? Rotate them. The $20 they will charge you to rotate them is a small price to pay for piece of mind.

The truck has 35,000 km and the tires have been rotated twice as per maintenance minder. I believe the price of the tire rotation was included in the service price of $218, and therefore I think I am paying for the rotation whether they do it or not. Its kind of a "package price" I think.

They wanted to rotate mine at the dealership yesterday while getting an oil change. I said "no" drives toooo good to mess with it!! Also said I needed new wiper blades, that they were streaking; I said hmmmm, my wife just made a video about 15 minutes long on beautiful fall foliage. It was pouring rain and the wipers were on. The entire video was through her side of the windshield, no streaks! Go figure!!

I rotate my tires at evry oil change as per the MM.

Well, if it is part of the "package price" and they didn't rotate them, then that portion of the package price should be taken off your bill. I always do the "ala carte" thing when offered a "package price" for several services. I mean, they wanted to charge me something like $50 to change the cabin air filter and another $30 to change the engine air filter. I told them I would buy/change my own cabin filter and, I had just looked at the air filter, it looked fine, so they could skip that too. The price on the "package" was reduced by $80.

Long story short, I don't care if it is part of a package deal or not, if a service is not provided, you should not be paying for it. So, if you got charged for a tire rotation and did not get a tire rotation, you should not be paying for tire rotation. That simple.

When you go back to the dealership, ask them what they normally charge for a tire rotation. When they give you a price, tell them you paid for a tire rotation that was not done, the last time you were in. So, either you get the money back, or they do the tire rotation that you paid for but did not get.

Talked to service manger this morning and told him if I had to pay for a tire rotation and all my tires were in the same condition, to go ahead and rotate them. Seems like this combo price thing is a money grab cause they can say all kinds of things weren't required so that didn't do them but charge you for them. I'll be sure to see if they changed the oil filter and whatever else they were supposed to do. Wish I could do these things myself but I don't know how and don't know anyone who can help me with it.

Guess thooks that maybe you should read the whole thread before adding your comments. I don't know how to tell when to rotate tires so I'm trying to learn something. I'm not here to complain about the cost of an oil change..they were supposed to do a bunch of other stuff as well. I'm questioning if they actually did all the stuff I paid for or if they're just charging me for stuff they're not doing. It doesn't make logical sense to me that they would take off all the tires to inspect the brakes but put the tires right back on in the same position. I know the best tires go on the front. It seems odd to me that all 4 tires would have the same amount of wear. I've never heard of that before.

best tires go on the rear.

of my 3 sets of tires, about 60,000 miles on each set, i have rotated each set just once. typically the first oil change after they are installed. they all have all worn pretty even. set 2 & 3 I changed the tires out 2 at a time a few months apart to lessen the $$$ hit, and the newest tires were always put on the back. YMMV

also, just ignore the handfull jags on the ROC, just use the ignore feature, and you dont have to read their nonsense.

good luck with your RL

I always thought the balancing was a way to screw someone - I understand rotating them but unless they were oversized tires (havent had those in years) I've never asked for a balance, but I am usually offered the balancing if I ask for the rotation. Not to hijack your thread - just thought I'd pose that question while we're talking about rotations.

If you can drive at Interstate speeds, 70/90 mph and it drives good, leave them alone!! A tire that does not ride/drive good does not wear good!!
