does anyone have tips or any idea how to mount these big guys in the same locations? im thinking i may have to just drill them into the grille cover for the stock speakers. A professional mounting kit would be nice. thanks

Good luck. You're going to be cutting sheet metal, voiding the anti-corrosion warranty on the doors and radio and related systems. Foolish move.

Why do you think you can get superior performance from 6x9" speakers than 6.5" high quality and efficiency speakers? Unless you have a non-stock head unit then you're going to get worse sound. You only have 25 watts PEAK to work with on the top of the line unit. That's like 12 watts RMS. Unless you find some seriously efficient speakers you won't even hear them.

Bad idea all around.

Im not asking you to criticize WHY I want them thank you I just would like to know HOW to do it.
WHY: I have a 3500W amplifier that I have and I also posses 6x9 pioneer A-series speakers which are top notch. please stick to answering the question for now then we can dicuss about it after ^_^ thank you.
Regards,
Tim Minke

EDIT: no disrespect intended, just looking for an answer asap, thank you. You mentioned cutting sheet metal, its an 06' with 360,000km Im not too worried about any warranty....

Get out there and cut some metal if you want to make them fit. :act060:

and now for my opinion.... no way in Hell would I ever try to mount 6x9's in a 6.5" enclosure. I see no benefit in sound over the 6.5" speakers. So are you going to power them with a 3500W amplifier  Not sure what you are trying to do but you might want to take it down a notch on the attitude.

You might not find anyone on this forum who has taken your approach. You just might have to blaze your own trail. You probably want to check 'back' clearance before you start cutting.... but you probably already know that. Good Luck with your adventure. Let us know how it goes.

yeh I meant noting by it, just seemed like a smart-ass remark and I wasn't looking for criticism, but rather just weather its been done, is there is any existing mounts and the such, I saw 1 where a guy has @ 12" woofers in each door so I know I can do it when serious modding, which I may do. I apologize for any mistaken attitude. :act043: Im open to productive ideas but not anything like "don't do it, its stupid" ...IM GONNA DO IT ANYWAYS :p ... so will Y'all help me?

Here's my 2ct.

Other than a few older Thiel models, I don't recall any high-end home loudspeakers that use oval drivers. Oval drivers are a generally considered to be a compromise and not generally associated with quality sound.

Quality 6.75" drivers in the stock location should provide great midrange/mid-bass.

If you want more bass, then you should install a subwoofer.

However, if you are dead-set on putting larger drivers in the doors, then I would recommend you consider round 8" drivers. The 8" round has about the same surface area as a 6x9 and there are are lots more choices available than in a 6x9" size.

There were a couple of others besides the Thiel. In the industry they were called 'racetrack' speakers for obvious reasons.
But they were more like racetracks than ovals, as they had straight parallel lines and the ends were curved.
(Seems like it would have been a better term for auto loudspeakers. )

I thought most of their application were as passive radiators vs. drivers.

Infinity G35s used 2 Bose 6x9 on the rear deck in addition to 2 door speakers and a pair of 5 1/4" on the rear side panels.

There are some 5x7 and 6x9 component speakers as well. Again, the door installation is the real challenge, not sure of any big advantages beyond that, but good luck!

Here is a step by step guide how to do it...

1. Put 6x9's on craigslist for sale.

2. Sell 6x9's

3. Buy speakers that fit and are near your amp's RMS per channel rating

4. Install speakers that fit.

5.Enjoy good sounding music.

But on a serious note. You will be cutting sheet metal and might me modifying the door panel to clear. Since you will need a generic 6x9 bucket/bracket to mount the speakers for them to even attach to the door.

Assuming because you are asking a car forum how to mount them not a custom audio install forum.. You lack knowledge in fiber glass work and actual car audio. 3500w means zilch... Actual RMS per channel is what matters.

And welcome to forums, where criticism is un-avoidable. It is your decision to take it as constructive or negative. It was pure constructive informing you that it is not anywhere near worth the work you are going to be putting in.

Though I do believe the answer to your question should have been "No, a good amount of custom work is needed to door panels and inner door shell.

..... you know, if you are dead set on using the 6x9s (because you have them already)... you might consider putting them in small box enclosures under your front seats. This would not be anyone's recommendation who knows about audio & speakers, but it beats cutting up your doors, and will allow you to find out how they sound before you do something irreversible. It will also maybe allow you to "enjoy" them until you can get some better suited speakers that mount cleanly in your doors.
Just a thought.

This

Might as well build some kick panels and put 8" midwoofers. There might be some 7" mid bass drivers that may fit, the door panel speaker grill is pretty large, almost 6" and we all know the cone area of 6.5" driver is less than 5.25"

Chances are, a good 6.5" driver from say, hertz HSK XL, morel Elate or even some SB acoustics drivers from the Madison store will blow any Polk or pioneer 6x9. You will still need to cut metal, but it may be worth it, simply touch up after priming the areas and use thread inserts like a video from CAF I posted in the mobile section, and now newbies are following that trend as I noticed recently

all well noted and thank you for the more assisting approach :p reason why is they are matched pretty damn close they are 5-way speakers and are amazing. i'm thinking about adding a fiberglass custom made housing to fit on the door with some silicone and adhesive. however!!! to whom mentioned the 8" size. that s another option, i can swap these ones for those(only 4-way speakers) but i still have the same problem WHO DO I MOUNT THEM??? ahah do you know of any brackets that exist for them? or anything other then cutting/ destroying my door? i may do the 7X9 with a custom housing once again fiberglass and if thats the best option, anyone know a good guide on u tube for fiberglass creations? thanks a ton guys

If the OP truly has a 3,500 watt amplifier, none of this will matter, anyway. That much power will instantly destroy a 6x9" speaker or any other size that can be mounted in a vehicle's door. That's more total power than many movie theaters use to fill tens of thousands of cubic feet with bone-jarring sound levels. The interior of a vehicle is only a few hundred cubic feet.

What does your amp put out in RMS per channel? OR what is the model number of the amp?

My opinion is you sell those, save the $200 you would spend to make those fit and get a nice pair of components for the front and a good set of 2 ways for the rear.

The frequency response of 37k hz is bogus anyways cause you most likely wont hear anything above 20 khz.

LOL this is quite amusing,
**Are you going to list the product model #'s your using on this?

1st. Pioneer 6x9's that handle 3500 watts (nonexistent) the old Kevlar Revs are pry the last decent pioneers worth a damn and they were 250 rms. Still wont compare to a "OK" set of 6.5-6.75 components. There's probably 2 or 3full range speakers that exist that can handle that power

2nd. Really curious what kind of 3500W Amp. this is. Majority of these high output amps are Class D (Subwoofer Amps) with plenty of distortion. Really curious of RMS on this..

3rd. WHY? I can say yes you can do this but your going to trash your door panels for nothing, they will never seal right so unless your going free-air or sealing and dynomating the inside of the door. Then id/when you do this and realize factory sounded better you made swiss cheese of your door.

What is it you wish to accomplish out of this?

Its funny how people think that big power amps/speakers will automatically sound better. Sorry people big power typically means higher distortion

Five way speakers with only one input......
Nice.....

And I completely missed the 3,500w claim.
I use to work in live sound. You know doing concerts and what not. Our best professional amplifiers were 1,500 bridged mono into 8 ohms. 2,300w if we dropped it into 4 ohms. ( if I recall correctly ) This was into a true four way system.

Had I seen that claim sooner, I would of had a different approach to this thread.

Pictures please...

I personally can't wait to see the final product. Everyone owns there own truck to customize/mod how they see fit.

I can't wait....

as i am still new to car audio i am always looking for FACTS that can help me out and after looking at the 4CH amp i had picked to batch the RMS of the speakers, i had defs messed that up looking for a new amp now, im lucky i didnt buy it yet, had it on order but it has been pending payment, the 7x9's are my brothers and if your opinion is to drop them and go with 2 good 8" componant speakers id rather opt for that, assuming i dont have to do major modifacation. what im hoping to make come custom fiberglass holders and fit them to the door. advice?
