Tried to do it via email and most dealers gave crap offers with lots of add ons. Like $49-$51k otd. They were all indignant that I didn’t value those offers. Paying it back as it was this post that gave me confidence to wait a bit.

Eventually got one dealer that came back with a yes to my ask after playing quite game for three days. $41.5k plus tax - but that was no promo financing. I wanted the current .99% financing w/ Honda so I offered $43.5k and asked they match Carmax on a trade (no real reason a dealer wouldn’t- they have upside and the very worst they could do is transfer it to Carmax themselves).

In the end $46 after taxes, got 0.99%. Less $10k for trade so net OTD $36k.

Your OTD was actually $46k. The trade in is the same as if they handed you $10k cash and then you paid it back to them. OTD is everything including trade in, tax and title. $36k was the amount financed.
I know we are not supposed to comment in this site but felt this needs to be said as I see OTD prices being skewered on here a lot.

I had a really hard time looking at other posts when they didn't break everything out as you know the trade really makes a big difference. I bet a lot of people do have a trade in the deal which changes the dynamics a lot (reduces net tax, trade could be low offer or more desirable from dealer's perspective so they offer less on new, etc.). Financing can matter too for the same reasons if rate is a little higher as they get paid on those loans - they sell the paper. Or manufacture discounts like the promo financing from Honda.
