This past weekend I took my 06 Ridgeline to Corolla, NC for some beach driving. I was a little concerned after reading other stories about the VSA affecting the truck in the event that air is let out of the tires and the confusion with pulling fuses. I tried it with without letting any air out of the tires and ran into no problems. I just drove sensibly and tied to stay in ruts made by others. In some softer areas I dropped into 1st gear and engaged the VTM 4-lock. The VSA automatically turned off during the off road driving. I noticed several other vehicles stuck or being towed including a Jeep wrangler, Grand Cherokee, and a Honda Element. However, I was surprised to see several other vehicles, including a CRV and a Rav4 making through the sand.

I think as long as you drive sensibly, the Ridgeline will perform well in beach sand even without reducing tire air pressure.

You said it, just watch what you are doing and the RL will do fine. I was down in Aransas Pass, Tx on the beach and I went through some pretty deep loose stuff with the VSA off and on never had a problem. It bogged down in the real deep stuff but I never got stuck. There were some full size trucks that just sank in and did not move a foot when they it the deep stuff. :D

I am a newbie...please help. I like to drive my truck on the beach so I can go surfing but sometimes when the sand is soft it can be challenge (I let some air out). I would like more clearance. To accomplish this, do your recommend I go with a larger tire (I have 245s now...should I get 285s), or a skyjacker 2" suspension "leveling" lift. THIS IS IMMENSLY IMPORTANT to me so if you can share a quick thought or any other suggestions I would be grateful! Thanks for your time.
