Enough about the gas mileage already!

I am going to start my own thread with this one.

I really don't understand what all the hoopla about gas mileage has been with this vehicle. Everywhere I read talks about bad gas mileage but my Ridgeline gets just about the same as my Sport Trac did and this vehicle has 45 more hp and is much bigger/heavier. And, from my research, gets as good gas mileage as other trucks in it's class. And... the Ridgeline is the ONLY low emissions truck that I have come across. Given all factors, I think that this V6 is a pretty amazing engine.

And, I don't know what V8s people are talking about as the V8s I am familair with get much worse gas mileage- check out the HEMI on the Dodge 1500 or the V8 on the Ford F150.

If people want good gas mileage a vehicle of this size/weight/utility/power is probably not for them. There are plenty of smaller, lighter, less powerful, and less usefull vehicles out there...!

Also, I seem to remember the mileage posted pretty clearly on the sticker...

I 2ND this thought.
Just try to get a truck of equal size that gets better milleage.
And keep in mind... the truck has 247hp if you use it it will eat gas.;)
If you want good milage get a car

I agree with the OP about the gas mileage threads, I just clicked the "new posts" and I swear most of them are about gas mileagle.

Anyone who expects to get exactly the EPA ratings is delusional. The EPA has admitted this, every automotive publication knows this. The EPA testing procedures are outdated and don't take into account things such as Air conditioning usages, or stop and go traffic conditions.

Bottom line: MANY current vehicles post mileage BELOW EPA estimates by an average of 16%.

Starting with the 2008 model year, the EPA will begin revising its testing standards.

Until then, if you get anywhere from 13-17mpg city and 17-21mpg highway it is 100% NORMAL. It could be EVEN LESS depending on your driving style and environmental conditions.

So STOP with all the MPG threads! There are PLENTY of them already!

Remember the 3 cardinal rules of forum etiquette:

1) RTFM
2) SEARCH
3) POST

I got the same (or slightly better) mileage on my '97 F150 V8 as I do on the RL on my normal day to day driving. The RL does get better on trips though. My F150 was a 2WD extended cab, so that is probably the difference.

I agree. Thanks for your post, and welcome to the forum. My own posting has slowed dramatically in recent days because the MPG crap is everywhere here. I can't understand it, unless it's these "trolls" that people are talking about. None of it makes sense, unless people are in debt because of Christmas Credit card usage, and NOW want to watch their money!

I have no complaints with my MPG. I get 16.6 MPG now, and thats the same as my '04 Tacoma. But this truck is nearly a ton HEAVIER than the Taco.

I have several theories:

1. I think many owners are being more critical of of MPG because this is a Honda. The most fuel efficient and environmentally friendly company out there. You can bet if this truck, in it's current form even, was made in Detroit, the mpg debate would'nt exist.

2. I am guessing the winter mix, along with many newly purchased trucks that are still in the break-in period has a lot to do with it.

3. People are lead footed, and this truck, unlike ALL OTHERS is not only easier to drive fast, but more fun and safe. This truck is probably being used more like a sporty car than the trucks most people replaced with it. I include myself in this, as I would NEVER attempt to take my '04 Tacoma around sharp bends as fast as I can with the Ridgeline.

4. Finally, the holidays are over, and people are broke. We got our credit card bills for our spending, and we are watching every cent we are spending. These people are probably bitching about home heating costs too. And while my gas bill is twice what it was last year, I am not bitching about that either. I can always turn it down a little, put on a ROC sweat shirt, and tuff it out till spring. Likewise, it the MPG of my truck becomes an issue, I can simply slow the F$%&* DOWN! It's all up to me.

I am turned off by the MPG complaints. The fact is, this is a full time all wheel drive, 4 door truck that is loaded with safety features beyond any other truck of it's kind. It weighs in at a staggering 4,500 lbs, but it feels like a 3,000 lb car!

Drive it like you would any other gas guzzling truck, and you will get the same or better mileage.

Drive it like a car, and it's no longer fair to compare to other trucks.

:D As I'd said a long time ago about the 'mileage' posts....GO BUY A CIVIC FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! That was about a month or so ago when I just got tired of those silly MPG posts and the constant questions asking what mileage everyone was getting. Back then I was pretty much told to back off. I guess NOW everybody is finally getting as sick of them as I was!!:p

WOW!!! I thought I was gonna really piss people off with that post but I guess I am not the only one who can't understand all the complaining about gas mileage. I have been SO IMPRESSED with the engine- a low emmisions V6 with this kind of performance.

I LOVED Fins2theright's post.. and all the others as well- I think you pretty much said it all!!!

Thought I would post some info some might find interesting.

This is from Consumer's Report as they have tested vehicles- this is not the EPA estimates but how these vehicles actually tested out.

05 Sport Trac- V6- 15mpg/20mpg (reported, vehicle not tested)
05 F150- 5.4 V8- 9mpg/20mpg
05 RAM 1500 -4.7 V8-8mpg/17mpg
05 Toyota Tacoma- V6- 13mpg/21mpg

oh, and almost forgot.... Honda RIDGELOVE- 10mpg/23mpg- so, don't worry, be happy, you bought the BEST truck!!!

Under the new hp requirements, it's 247 hp. Under the old hp requirement it was 255 hp.

We don't have winter mix fuel here and I get consistently 19 to close to 21 mpg.

ROC Sweatshirt? What ROC sweatshirt?
Looks like we have to tuff it out until spring just to get a T-shirt. :(
I guess that's just one more reason we should have bought this truck & joined this forum earlier :D

Lot's of posts on this, for sure. With the all wheel drive and the ride and all that I get what I expected. I drive mainly stop-n-go and I'm getting about 15 mpg. It's relative, though. Gas here is $2.33 a gallon. I got to work and picked up a $1.99 monster drink (16 oz) and picked up a $3.00 pack of smokes (nasty habit I know). :)

A $3.00 pack of smokes?? You musta got Employee Pricing! Or, is it "Everyone Else is a Sucker Pricing!" I just can't keep up.
