It drives like a $20,000 entry-level vehicle.
Well, that's exactly what it is. :) You can plug in all the options you want, but it's still the least expensive automobile in Ford's entire lineup.

Yep I agree… nothing wrong with that.
It is what it is.
A good thing IMHO.
These types entry vehicles have disappeared in the last 10-15 years or so.
Forcing those people to buy used, often with no warranty.
Or these days even a used car is likely over priced.
Time will tell, but it appears so far to offer great value for the money spent.

I continue to see more of these Mavericks. Ford is offering an inexpensive entry point. It's all the truck you need for some. Some folks just need a vehicle to get mulch and lumber, few tow or go off road. Sounds a lot like RL bullet points when I was interested in a G2.

So this just popped up in my email. I seem to recall getting an email earlier saying that they would not be able to complete all the orders they took:

I think my OTD price for the truck was about 28 grand give or take. It would have been equipped like this:

2022 Maverick XLT Front-Wheel Drive:
  • 2.5L Hybrid Engine
  • Automatic Continuously Variable Transmission
  • Velocity Blue Metallic
  • Navy Pier Unique Cloth Bucket Front-Seats
  • 17" Painted Aluminum Wheels
  • Standard Package
  • XLT Luxury Package
  • Ford Co-Pilot360™
Interesting that now they are starting on production on an order that I think I put in around late Sept early Oct last year.

I actually saw a Maverick on the road today at a stop light. Too plain for my tastes.

Well supposedly the new four-wheel-drive Tremor
Edition was going to be around 28k.
For some reason I don’t see that happening.
I think I’m gonna stay with my 2007 RTS-(essentially rust free rustproofed/undercoated/Woolwax-manual car washes) with 240k for another 10 years or so.
The 1g’s certainly have a unique look…

I just read a Maverick vs Ridgeline comparison on MSN, of course the Maverick won. Mostly based on price and economy. But the prices around here level the field so to speak. You can't buy a Maverick at MSRP around here. I don't find the Maverick in the same class as our truck, it is decent for what it is, but it reminds me a lot of my 1976 Ford Courier.

The comparison of Maverick to Ridgeline is such an apples to oranges comparison, as a guy owning both this year the first thing I tell folks is that they are just not in the same class. It is like comparing a Toyota Tundra and Tacoma. The Ridgeline is much bigger in all dimensions, a spacious mid size truck compared to the economy car size Maverick. I like our Maverick a lot, but the Ridgeline is more luxurious in all ways, the back seat flat floor in the Ridgeline is so much better for loading, and the storage under the rear bed with swing out tailgate makes it the better and easier choice for shopping trips, etc. The Ridgeline tows better. The Ridgeline insulation is far better, road noise is far more controlled.

Where the Maverick really works is as a small economy work truck you can park anywhere, and the really low bed load height makes it really easy to use. I think Ford did a better job on technology, the smart cruise control and lane hold/steering functions work a lot smoother than the Honda versions of the same. You always know you are in a economy car platform in the Maverick, road noise is significantly more than Ridgeline and interior hard plastics are all around you to remind you that this is a budget build. That said, the Maverick is really fun to drive with much lower weight and Ford did a great job on the tight budget of giving lots of thoughtful and useful interior storage options.

Our Maverick (lowered with prototype springs and more).

I just saw one this AM at the grocery store. I was putting groceries in the truck when he pulled up and got out. If I had been sooner I would have talked to him. I looked at, XLT trim, hybrid. Nice looking little truck, reminds me of the mini-trucks that used to be available ( Chevy LUV, Ford Courier. Toyota and Nissan, etc. ) . Those little trucks do hit the market for people who need the small truck.

"More than 80% of Maverick customers are first-time truck buyers. And the top competitive conquests are coming from the Honda CR-V, the Toyota RAV4 and Honda Civic, Ford spokesman Said Deep told the Free Press."

Simply because of the price, but even that's being inflated around here.

So I just got another email from Ford saying that my hybrid Maverick was being delayed again, this time till Dec 12th. I long ago cancelled the order and got my 500 back, but they still keep sending me the updates. If I remember correctly it was over a year ago that I put the order in, and at the time I thought it would have been around May (22) that it would have been built. Glad I didn't hang around waiting on it.

On another note, I actually saw a couple of them in the last two days. A blue one like the one I ordered and today a steel grey similar to my Modern Steel color I have now. Blue was pretty, but the grey wasnt bad either.

My local Ford dealer has a Maverick on the lot for $49,000.

I am a die hard Ford guy from a die hard Ford family. Ford is doing some things right, but....I just bought a brand new Ridgeline RTL for $40,300...which is way more truck than any Maverick will ever be.

That's a ton of money for an entry level Ford.

Ford dealers could screw up a wet dream.
The redo of the Thunderbird went this way too.
Once they finally got one on their lot they marked it up close to $100Gs.
It wasn't no $100G car.
Some dealers still have them.
Just like the broncos. I was seriously considering one but as soon as they started the $35,000 mark up I completely lost interest.

A Maverick parked next to me in a lot on Friday and I thought it was a decent-looking truck, but my Ridgeline seemed to dwarf it, and I do use mine for larger loads sometimes. Not a good pic; just to note the proportions.

However earlier that day I saw a Santa Cruz on the interstate, and I mean that bed seems really tiny. Bet it's fun to drive, but I think a couple gym bags would fill it.
