Just wanted to give other ROC forum members a heads up to avoid a possible embarrassing situation. This may be outlined in the manual (I admit, I haven't RTFM lately - LOL) and I searched high and low throughout the forum on RFID and immobilizer and couldn't find anyone else that experienced it. If obvious, please forgive me.
Anyway, on with the story. The past two weekends, I had the family on a couple of jaunts with my '06 RTL. Shut it down but left the key in accessory position (so they could enjoy the tunes!) and came back a few minutes later. Truck would start but immediately shut down. Did this a couple of times with the same results.
The only way to get it running was to actually turn the key to off, remove key for a few seconds (like 15?) and once inserted and turned to start, she roared back to life as usual.
So I guess the bottom line is, the RFID in the key fob must 'forget' itself when it's in the accessory position for too long so when you go try to start it, it doesn't know it's the correct key. Removing it, resets and all is well.
I hope this saves others from a potentially embarrassing situation. Isn't technology wonderful?
