Anybody got any reviews or know anything about the imposter wheel skins?

Almost bought a set for my Toyota Highlander however the wheel weights were on the outside on the rim of the wheel. That would have prevented the skin from fitting. Just something to think about if you have outside weights.
As for reviews, I haven't heard anything bad..

If you're talking about the plastic chrome covers for the aluminum wheels, I had a set on my truck for a while.

They fit well, but you have to remove them in order to get the lug nuts off, and that can break the plastic tabs that hold the cover in place, causing the cover to rattle while you drive it.

Your best bet is this to make the covers a little more practical.

I've long since sold my orginal tires and wheels and am now riding on 20" tires and wheels, but chrome plastic covers did look good.

Love mine!

P.S. I took Rusty's advice. They work great and look great, too! A $13/wheel mod that is well worth it, IMO.

CrowMagnumMan,

Where did you find the chrome pin stripes for your Ridge? Did you consider any other color pin stripe for your Steel Blue Ridge?

Thanks,

Those do look good. Do you have wheel weights on the outside? I didn't think they would work with them.

Those are for steel rims. I was writing about covers for aluminum rims.

DueceRon - I do believe there were weights on the outside and they did not affect the wheel skinz at all. I can not be 100% of that though, but, I do believe I remember weights on the outside and there being no problems. Sorry I could not be more specific.

Alloy rims with weights on the outside were no issue for me. I ran them for almost two years. I loved them (for the cost). They did cause a little issue with the finish on the rims where the tabs held them on.
Take Rusty's advise on the lug nut hole mod because you WILL trash your skins when you remove them.

Absolutely. Doing the mod will make an easy on, easy off, transition whenever you need to get at the lug nuts!

Finally got around to post some pics of "the poor mans wheel." These are the imposters I referred to in an earlier post. Besides, I had to wash it first.:act006:

Yes....! I purchased a set online from Ebay. Luckily I only spent $40.00 for a full set of four. I have an 07 RTL and bought the importers that matched my "ribbed" factory wheels exactly. They look great and fit "very" well. That is the plus side. The real negative is that once they are put on you cannot take them off. The lug openings are to small to fit a lug tool through the cover onto the lug nut itself. Yeah...slight over sight from the manufacturer of the imposters. What makes it even worse is that you cannot remove the covers with out breaking the cover. Discount Tire experienced this first hand when I took the Ridgeline in to fix a nail in a tire. They told me, "No problem...all you need to do is pull on them really hard and they come right off." The were correct. The cover came right off along with the tabs that hold the cover on the wheel. They replaced it for me. The only feasible way I could imagine removing the covers is to remove the entire wheel and gently dislodge the tabs from the back side. Unfortunately I can not test this theory. I have not contacted imposter yet but plan to do so. I will follow up with what they say.

All you need to do is cut an inch or so off the back of the lug nut opening. That will make them wide enough that a wrench will get to your lugs to get your tires off. There is then no need to take them off at all. Hope this helps.
