Wow, you guys are rough. There's a difference between affording and spending on a new car. I think the commentary over there has been mostly positive over the years. Initially, Roman was kind of rude to the Honda rep but he has really come around over the years and Nathan loved it on the Gold Mine Hill where he called a "tool." For the RL do so well on a channel that focuses on truck off road and towing.....

I almost feel sorry for the little Santa Cruz. Most of those with the DCT (which accounts for about half of those sold) are being recalled for a faulty solder joint on the transmission's high pressure electric oil pump circuit board and a software problem that causes the limp mode to fail resulting in a complete loss of power. Hyundai and Kia will be recalling 112,180 vehicles to inspect and possibly replace the transmissions and update the software so that if the HPEOP fails, there's less of a chance that the vehicle will completely lose power. At this point, it doesn't appear that the recall will reduce the chance of the HPEOP failing - it'll just reduce the chance of completely losing power if it does. Hyundai has stated that a failure of the HPEOP requires the entire transmission to be replaced. What a mess.

I have been following that saga over on the SC forum. Several members have opted to sell their Santa Cruz's. Is this happening on the turbo charged Tucson also, or just the SC?

Ooooh another high quality product from Hyundai ! At least you get a 100k warranty to keep it going.
The amount of people I know that were screwed by Hyundai or Kia is hilarious, especially when I told them specifically to stay away from them. Even with a great warranty, do you want to be without a car or hangout at the dealer for days on end??

2021-2023 Santa Fe, Santa Cruz, Elantra N, Sonata, Veloster N, Kona N, and Sorento vehicles with the 8-speed DCT.

Oh, and no turn signal? BMW drivers are noted for that, but not all do it. I’ve actually seen them use their turn signals……imagine that!
I'm pretty sure in Ohio the dealers snap the turn-signal stalks off before delivering the vehicles.

WOW...never knew that. They do the exact same thing down here in Florida!

When shopping for a mid size truck last year, it came down to the Tacoma vs Ridgeline, the Santa Cruz wasn't even on the short list, nor was the Gladiator....the RL won out easily.
I shopped and drove the Gladiator, Tacoma and the Nissan thing, Titan??, but the RL was the perfect capability and comfort level. Sure, it scraped a little here and there when getting to some camping/shooting spots, but the other 99.9% of the time, its a better vehicle all around.

The Santa Cruz gets an HPD-like package called the XRT trim for 2024.

Sales of the Santa Cruz seem to have leveled off in the 3,xxx/month range while Ridgeline sales have been trending upward since the 2021 refresh even as the model ages.

I do see some Santa Cruz’s occasionally, and find them still rather stylish for their size, but not nearly as many as G2-facelift Ridgelines.

Apparently Honda sold 42K Ridgelines in 2022, Hyundai sold 36K Santa Cruz’s. Don’t know about Hyundai, but I am very sure that Honda could have sold many more Ridgelines if the supply had been there. No inventory on site for the entirety of 2022.

The web designer/content coordinator for Hyundai must have worked for Honda in the past. The prices for these Santa Cruz's is a bit exaggerated - $80K at Arapahoe Hyundai in Denver. There is no need to worry about accuracy, just get the page done. I guess it could be a great marketing scheme - "Get up to $40K off a new Hyundai."

You simply missed the fine print... it's a BOGO... Buy One Get One Free.

My wife thinks they're cute/sporty, and said she might even like driving one when she no longer needs an SUV for picking up/delivering flowers (she does weddings), but added "Does that even count as a 'truck bed'? What the heck could you carry in that?". Oh and as it turns out "your purse might fit" was NOT a wise answer :).

As a former Ridgeline owner (2019 RTL-E & 2022 Black Edition) I agree with the statement above. After putting about 3K miles in 6 months on my 2022 it became obvious I didn't need this expense. I ended up selling my RL for almost what I paid for it. Living on 20 acres, about to retire, I just needed an inexpensive used truck to haul junk to the dump.
With an occasional trip to Big Box and Tractor supply.

Well, as we all know, the used truck market is flat out crazy! I could find older trucks anywhere from 10 - 15 years old. The price range I was looking at were trucks I would never buy. "Last Leg Losers" as I called them. The ones that caught my eye were priced $15K - $25K with 150,000 miles or more. Damn! Maybe selling my RL was not the smartest thing I did that day.............. In any event, time to go hunting! I needed to bag, tag and take home something to meet my minimal truck needs.

Looked at the Ford Maverick. Base price of $21.5K included destination fees. But you can't even order ne until August for a possible delivery of a 2023! My guess there will be a price adjustment by then. Dead-end there as can't wait that long.

So, onto the Hyundai Santa Cruz. I have one on order complete with VIN # due early June. Very happy w/this decision. In the end, the cost difference from where I started with the RL Black Edition and purchase of the Santa Cruz, I'm $19K on the upside! Will it have all the "coolness" of my BE, nope! I'll probably put 7 - 8K miles a year on it. Plus, I get another new truck! Is it a real truck? Is the RL?

Thanks for playing,
Gusto!
I'd love to hear how the Santa Cruz is working out. It is a sharp vehicle. I just don't know about Hyundais.
