I am happy to see the volume control knob and standard LED low-beam headlights. I hope the new standard headlights work well. It would be hard to make them worse than the previous standard headlights. I don't care about all the cosmetic changes. Honda should have spent the money fixing all of the quality problems instead. Consumer Reports subscribers gave their 2019 Ridgelines the worst possible reliability rating.

 

Correction: I should have said 2018 Ridgelines got the worst possible rating. Looks like HVAC problems were common. Ratings for the 2019 MY were not included in the 2020 Buying Guide.

I really like all the changes, inside and out. I wish I had waited to purchase the 2021 instead of the 2020 RTLE? Anyone interested in a 2020 with just over 3k miles?

 

I feel much the same way and I'll have 20k+ miles on my 2020 by the time the 2021 is out. Still, with the high trade values of the G2, shouldn't be too bad. I swapped my 2017 RTL-E with 70k miles in 'good' condition and $15k for my 2020 RTL-E. That is with sizeable miles on the 2017 vs low miles on 2020s.

We have 4 Honda dealers in a metro area of 1.1 million and they fight like cats and dogs for business, so I know even the 2021s will be a good deal.

It does make me wonder if Honda will give more love / updates to the G2/2.5/3 vs the G1, given the current trends in the truck market. I could get used to a yearly refresh! 😁

 

Well I'll be damned. The pictures of the 2021 posted on the adjacent thread are impressive and look more like a G3 redesign than any refresh I could have imagined. Honda threw us a major curve and dumped a ton of love on the Ridgeline near the end of the G2 cycle. There wasn't even a whisper that something this big was in the works, but they obviously decided to take the booming US pickup market seriously. I do think this will be a game changer and Honda will be scrambling to make enough of these. I wonder if the HPD package options include enhanced ground clearance.

 

Upon further reflection, I suspect the body-on-frame loyalists will say "Nice try, Honda, but it's still not a real truck...". Nevertheless, I think the styling changes will attract more buyers to the RL.

I've been looking at the pictures of the 2021 RL and comparing them to pictures of earlier G2 RLs. The headlights look pretty much the same. Could it be that all 2021 RLs will come with the excellent headlights from the earlier Black Editions and RTL-Es? That would be good news. Even better news would be that they will be self-leveling. Can anybody see any changes in the headlights?

The headlights are actually quite different. They are both LED low beam and halogen high beam and share a general shape, but there's a kink at the bottom of the 2020 design where the 2021 is mostly straight. The inside edge of the 2021 design is more upright. These two changes appear to make the high-beam reflector larger. The section above the grill is taller in the 2021 design and the inside corner of the upper section slants the opposite direction. The outer edge appears to have a slightly more aggressive angle in the 2021 and the shape of the DRL strip is slightly different. They are not interchangeable.

 

Yes, all trims of 2021 RL get the LED low beams of the E and BE (high beams still halogen)...not self-leveling though.

 

The TSB listings for all years are now complete. I'll work on sorting them by TSB number and fix the inappropriate capitalizations later (this resulted from copying and pasting from the service bulletins).

Awesome work Zroger73! As always, great information for all of us!
I recently went to my dealer to address a very slight engine chirping noise that went away with increased RPM's . It was so slight that it could be heard in the cabin but not in the noisy dealership service arrival check in bay due to work etc nearby. The mechanic heard it and got to work. He found:

• 20-068 Rear engine mount chips after warm-up due to premature wear (2018 2WD after JB001952, 2018 AWD after JB011230, 2019)

He replaced the rear mounts but that didn't fully fix the noise, so he called Honda and they said the TSB is being revised and will include rear AND front mounts. Just a heads up, if you have the chirp, let your tech know they need to do all four to avoid the second service visit ( they had to order the parts of course). Loaner provided both visits, kudos to my dealer!

 

Thanks @zroger73 ! My passenger side roof molding is being replaced this morning thanks to the list. Dealer ordered the parts when I had her in for oil change and appreciated the TSB number.

No more green pickup trucks from Honda?

 

If you are asking about the 2021 Ridgeline, I don't think Honda has released that kind of information yet. I have been searching for a sales brochure online and I have not found one. If anybody else is also looking, beware the Dealer E-Process .pdf files as listed at many dealership's websites, such as: https://www.coasthonda.com/vehicle-brochures/ There is one labeled 2021 Ridgeline and it takes a while to download but what you get is all the 2020 Honda SUVs and 2020 Ridgeline and possibly a virus. A few hours after I downloaded it, I got a warning from my antivirus program that said it had isolated a virus whose purpose was to show me advertisements. It did not give much more information than that, but I suspect it was Dealer E-Process. Notice there is also a brochure listed for the 2021 Fit but I think it was discontinued, at least in the US. If anybody knows where to find a real sales brochure online (without a virus), speak up. PS I'm hoping green comes back.

Probably not, unfortunately. I still have several reservations about the 2021 Ridgeline and Honda in general.

• Still too many quality issues being reported - even in the 2020s (water leaks, noises, electrical issues, etc.)
• Honda's cold and stern refusal to offer any assistance whatsoever to trade my lemon 2019 for a new 2020 - not even a gift card for a free oil change - even with an offer to sign an NDA

The only path I see back to a Ridgeline at this point is if Honda covered the full trade difference between my '20 CX-5 and a '21 Ridgeline and I don't see that happening. All Honda had to do last year was put $5,000 on the hood of a '20 and I would have paid the other half of the trade difference. I felt that would have been a fair gesture on their part considering my history with the brand - a very minimal expense to compensate me for my negative experiences and keep me from leaving the brand. Instead, they chose to keep their $5,000 which encouraged me to sell every Honda I owned, share my experience and dissatisfaction with thousands of people on multiple Honda forums and social media, and stop recommending the brand. Did my efforts cost Honda more than $5,000? Who knows. I do know that there would likely still be a 2020 Ridgeline and possibly a 2021 (on my dime) in my garage if they did.

 

I agree with Roger. If I have bad luck with a vehicle I'm not likely to buy it again. He's just responding with his most important attribute. His money.

That said my 17' Ridgeline has only gotten better since I've purchased it new. It had some weird problems like all the new cars I've had over the years but this one "fixed itself". The tailgate was sticky when new and it wouldn't open up and down with the handle sometimes. It worked itself free and has been perfect operation since that time. I had a non lighted indicator for my transmission, I banged on the console and it's worked since. Weird stuff sometimes. Probably the only manufacturing defect I've found with mine has been that the front end alignment from the factory was off a little on two wheels. It caused those two tires to have more wear than the other two. I only rotated those tires twice myself and only did them front to rear. No criss crossing at all. But they still lasted almost 41,000mi so I'm not complaining as that's very good for factory tires from any new car I've owned (with the exception of the 1989 Chevy Celebrity Eurosport Wagon with the Michelins that lasted over 100,000mi on the rear of the car (never rotated to see how long they would last actually). And that's all the problems I've had. Brakes are still original at 44,000mi and my trans shop buddy who inspects it for me said that he's never seen brakes still at 100% on his "PA inspection brake tester" before. He asked if I changed them. Nope was the answer. We'll see how long they last too. There's really a lot of good stuff with this truck. I'd bet anyone with a GM isn't going to say their brakes are still 100% at 44k miles! Heck I just changed the wife's 12' SRX brakes and they were new at 46k miles and it's got 78k on it now. Hers has now had a lot of repairs. Brakes twice, headlamp assemblies (they leak on Cadillac SRX's bad) , alternator, battery (of course), rotors once, exhaust flex coupler (leaked and made noise), new tires twice, rear shocks(struts - Firestone SAID they were bad which i think was a lie but whatever), front end alignment (lifetime one from Firestone so i don't have to pay twice lol) recharged A/C (was low a couple years ago), Radio receiver for TPS sensors and Keyfob entry (wouldn't let me open doors more than 5 feet from car), TPMS transmitters in tires, windshield wiper motor, rebuild of rear differential for early failures (known failure) due to problems with the Haldex pump in axle, and a couple of recalls (bolts loose on rear subframe causing detachment driving down the road). So yeah, ha. GM quality. I'll take the Honda over that any day. But I gotta say. The SRX is FUN to drive. When the engine winds out and you use the slap shift it's just FUN! lol (don't tell my wife that) Even with all the problems along the way it's been a car I really like. And the Ridgeline is a good driving experience too. The SRX is just more FUN to drive.

I'm afraid you're not going to be entertained by my Mazda ownership experience. The '19 MX-5 Miata has had zero factory defects. The '20 CX-5 had a recall for a power lift gate module that was completed without incident. There are no squeaks, rattles, buzzes, or any other unusual noises. No failures of any kind to report. No cosmetic defects. No fit/finish issues. Nothing. I'd love to entertain you with a list of complaints, but I can't.
