This affected all three of my 2G Ridgelines - 2017, 2019, and 2021. I discovered that if I press the instrument cluster lens on my 2021, the cheap-sounding resonance stops. I never tried this on my previous Ridgelines since it sounded like a "loose speaker" inside the cluster. This minor annoyance somewhat sours the user experience.
You are dead on. Pressing against the glass diminished the resonance. Still a little distorted, weird. It also applies to the Parking sensors. Good call, someday if I'm ambitious I will dive into it, but I'm not as eager as I used to be. :) Thanks for that.

I got such a frigg'n great trade-in price (44k miles $32k ) that I just traded up. To be honest, My girlfiend ordered the Bronco, I might do the same, I haven't decided. But I don't believe this will be long term. It's not bad, though... I was just disapointed that they put in wireless charging with no wireless carplay and they still they haven't fixed the "Accessory" position leaving the radio on when shutting the vehicle off. Such an easy fix and soooooo stupid. But still, you can't argue the trade in value. So, we'll see where this takes me.

Damn dude, love how you knew right away to press on the dispaly glass. Love it.

I'm also trying to figure out how to keep the center speaker from rattling. This, too, has plagued my '17, '19, and '21 Ridgelines and it's incredibly annoying in an otherwise quiet cabin (except for the rear window creaking as the body flexes). :)

If it sounds like a rattle then it's probably a high chance it's a blown (torn) diaphram. I don't know the disassembly process, yet.. but I think inspecting the edge of speaker to see if there is a tear would be my first start. If you had it happen in 3 vehicles, I wonder if your area or use promotes getting the diaphram damp. Either condensation, something spilled or whatever? It could be a rattle, though.. but again that is exactly what a blown speaker or even a blown mini-amp sounds like. My two front door speakers had to be replaced because of rattling, each speaker has an indipendent mini-amp that drives them, so there are a few things that could lead to the issue.

The speaker is fine. The grill lifts out of the dash and the speaker is attached to it with a couple of screws. It doesn't rattle when it's out of the dash - only after it's been installed for a bit. The clips are tight. The speaker is tight. There is no obvious cause of the buzz/rattle. Just to clarify - it's not the audio from the speaker that "rattles" - it's the center speaker "assembly" that rattles. I can't make the assembly rattle while uninstalled nor does the dash rattle while it's uninstalled. The rattle is only present when it's installed.

I need to drive mine without the audio on to see if it exhibits the same noise. I swapped out the center speaker and wonder if the heavier aftermarket one stops the noise altogether. I didn't notice it before I swapped, but that has been a couple years ago now and I don't recall hearing it before.

I had my 19 in the dealer multiple times for this before the factory warranty ended. The solution their shop foreman came up with was little sticky foam pieces everywhere they could possible shove them. It actually has helped, I havent noticed the rattle since.

I just traded my 2019 RTL-T (green) for a 2021 RL (Lunar Silver). I was at the dealership when they made me an offer I could not refuse (they had two '22 Ridgeline's that had arrived the day before both in the trim and color I was interested in).

Going from my '19 RTL-T to the new '22 RL, I lost: navigation, te passenger side camera and some other minor things (that I can't really remember).

What I gained:

Nine-speed transmission, dipping mirrors., a steel hood (bye-bye jello hood)! I now have brakes that work! Wow, what a difference <- pet peeve with 2019. I also got blind spot sensors/indicators. The stereo and speakers (and I believe the TRL-E has an even better sound system) isawesome. I'm not tempted to change anything about it. I have a VW GTI with the optional Helix Sub/ and woofer and the Ridgeline blows it away. The acoustic windshield in the new Ridgeline also makes a big difference. Much quieter. The new battery is an AGM, my original 2019 battery was not (although Honda may have changed that later in the 2019 run). The new transmission has different shift points, that I am getting accustomed to (no bad just different) - seems smoother around town. I am still reaching for the old stock shifter. But, I don't mind the push button shift at all. I thought it might bug me - nope. I think in a few weeks I won't even notice the change. I am used to turning off the auto start/stop ( from driving my GTI), so no big deal at . I also now have Honda Sensing Suite. Since I can turn it on and off and modify it to my liking, it is a major upgrade. I like it. Finally, the Home Link mirror has a much smaller frame than before and is really easy to program- took me literally twenty seconds to program. The seats are just as good if not better. The gray plastic bits have a hint of carbon fiber I prefer over the old gray. The new RL seems to ride a little better, but since I don't think there was any significant suspension change, it probaly come down to new rubber.

My old tonneau (Agri Fab) cover and after market front / back floor mats (Rhino) fit the new Ridgeline perfectly - very happy about this.

I was able to cash in (prorated) my extended warranty, Honda is sending me a check (very fair). So while there are not a huge number of big changes between 2019 to 2022, the small changes and improvements add-up to make me like this version much more. Since I was on the verge of needing new tires ($$$) and with the great trade-in value (result of Covid shortage) the opportunity was too good to pass up.

Your mileage my vary.

I am a bit surprised you found a 2021 that was not already spoken for.

They had one other there too (Springfield, Il). I also later saw others lister online in Central Illinois and St. Louis metro.
Maybe customers are moving on to the 2022, and leaving behind the 2021’s.

Great info in this post. Appreciate the hard work. I always wondered abut my “jelllo hood” on the 2019. So glad it is gone on the 2022. So many passengers asked me, “is that supposed to be doing that”, LOL

Based on what you said, I wonder if you drive it a while with the speaker grill off will it sound the same? Maybe the grill itself is vibrating. Process of elimination.

I've noticed that also, the brakes on my 22 RTL-E are firmer and feel far better than my 17 RTL-E.

Can someone help me with information on the 2020 tailgate lock? I understand it was supposed to be standard, but I am looking at a used 2020 RTL-E that does not seem to have it. It is something that can be installed easily and controlled electronically? Thanks.

Here is a video that should help you out. With the vehicle on and in park, go to the home screen:
  • settings
  • vehicle
  • door setup
  • tailgate power locking
  • enable/disable

It's disabled by default. You have to enable it by going to HOME > Settings > Vehicle > Door Setup > Tailgate Power Locking > Enable.

EDIT: @Sparkland beat me to it. :)
