Ok, so I go to shut off my truck and I see a message on the dash indicating me to tighten fuel cap. So I step out of the truck and tighten it. Message is still there, so I remove and put it back on. Same message.

On page 289 in my manual it says: if I recently refueled my RL it can be loose or off and to give it a turn until it clicks but the message will take several days of driving before it dissapears!

I hope it does cause I have'nt gotten gas in a while and it's still more than half full!

Has this happened to you? It will suck if I have to buy a new cap since this one is still attached to the plastic holder!!!!!

Well thats my pet peeve for Today!

No, not at all, this is the first time I ever heard of this or read about it!

I find the Search engine on this site just doesn't work, but I go to Google and search that way with the word Ridgeline in it, then it sometimes comes up.

By the way, it is still doing it, so I guess I'll have to replace the gas cap, which to me is annoying since it's only 4 years old!

Tip: use the Google custom search... not the one in the upper right corner:

I got this message yesterday, too. I have an aftermarket locking fuel cap, and have had it for about a month now. I did get gas that day, and after about 2 minutes of driving, I heard a chime and saw the "CHECK FUEL CAP" message on the display. After about 30 min of driving, it went away on its own

Mine did this about 2 weeks ago. I got out and took off the cap and put it back on and the light and message was still there. I called the service department and the advisor said give it a few days and when it ran a self diagaostic it would reset. About 2 days later it was gone. JR

I am on my 2nd day of seeing that annoying msg........ I hope it goes away soon. I have ensured the cap was tight, and then removed the cap and re-inserted it, still doing it....... maybe tomorrow. It did appear right after a fill-up, but I always ensure that it clicks at least 3 times when replacing the cap.

Got my first ever "Tighten fuel cap" msg today on the RL at 32,5xx miles. Have never seen it on the Pilot in 75,000 miles. I used the select button to change the display to the normal view, and thus far, multiple starts later, that's the only time the msg has appeared. I'm right at 1/2 tank of gas.

My "New to me" 2007 RTL had the tighten cap message straight from the car lot. I disconnected the battery for an hour to install a Magnaflow exhaust kit and when I connected the battery back up, the message was gone, and it has been gone for several days now.
I had the same message on my wife's Chrysler and a battery disconnect there (to replace the battery...was already planned) fixed it there as well.

I was unable to delete the entry from my ODB scanner on either vehicle, but a battery disconnect did the trick twice.

Hmm. I didn't think to check my OBD code readout. Will have to check that.

Required? I'm not so sure. I wish I could see a distinct difference in my RL. But my mpg has not seen any significant changes after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. So while I think it can help, I'm not yet convinced of the necessity.. but am willing to be convinced. ;)

Hi,

I now hate my Ridgeline. A few months ago came the daily error message: Tighten Fuel Cap. Sometimes the MIL with fault code P0456. Since 2 weeks I now have a new original cap. But the message came back after a few days. My Honda dealer is clueless. Can anyone even give you an idea where to look for?
