I'm looking to add a dashcam to my 2021 black edition. I've done a fair amount of research but I figure many of you will have information that will help me decide on a brand and best installation process.
Please advise.....thanks.

Installed a Thinkware Q800Pro front and rear in my 2021 BE. Happy with the brand in previous vehicles. Straightforward install. Used fuse taps —happy to give you the info on the circuits I used— you need an always powered and a powered when on only circuits. I can take some pics of how it looks if that helps

Here you go. 2 plugs in the front facing unit— one runs to the fuse panel and the other is the rear camera. Wires run under the plastic molding around the mirror and then left turn under the headliner and down the pillar. Rear wire runs across headliner and under the rubber weatherstripping, making its way up to the dash on the passenger side. Couple of those plastic trim tools make it fairly easy.

For an inexpensive no frills setup, I've used the capacitor wedge style dash cams (with an SDCH card) and plug into the lighter socket. I don't have the guts to start messing with fuse blocks or tapping into a power source by the map lights. There are threads about tapping into the wires by the map lights, doesn't look all that difficult. Ridgeline console is so spacious so I don't find it all that intrusive. I have two that are several years old now with no issues.

The wedge style was a result of having a sedan and not wanting to impede the view with a bulky setup. For mounting, I like something that's temporary so I buy those EZ-Pass style tabs and mount a piece to the windshield and a piece to the dash cam. One or two of those loop wire organizers help keep the install neat. When it's time to sell, comes out in minutes.

A lot of the dashcams do the same, and have the same camera quality so I just searched for deals on places like Newegg. When I saw a good deal, I did some research on the product itself. The product I got plugs into the OBD2 port and when in park, acts like a nanny cam as seen on the Tesla vehicles. You can set it to different distances to automatically turn on and record. This feature put it above some others at that price point which is why I went with it. Vantrue T2 dash cam. Was under $100 so I got one for both me and my wife.

I am a big Blackvue fan and have had them in all of my vehicles for many years. The DR750X-Plus is awesome and, IMPO, the best dash cam (along with Thinkware) on the market.

I like dash cams and have used on the last two trucks I have owned I recently 12/21/21, bought a 2022 RTL-E Lunar Silver, Blk interior and in test drive saw a dash cam already installed by dealer as incentive, don't know brand but is a very nice unit, with small cam that shows back seat occupants. I have added a Undercover Undercover Ultraflex tonneau was going with OEM tonneau but waited 6 weeks and still back ordered but OEM side steps. Looking into tailgate LED lights ( also had on other trucks), but think I will go with PUTCO 48", longer warranty, 100% water proof and will handle the back up sensors and other with just plug and play. Not bought yet, but like feed back on this project. Thanks

I am a huge believer in dash cams. In the last 6 years I have experienced 3 collisions that my Garmin Nuvi Cam recorded in 1080. All 3 (to my Ridgelines) were 100 percent the other driver's fault. (There has been no argument with their insurance companies because of my videos). This last "hit" to my 2020 was just over $4,000. Members of my family now drive with dash cams because of the prevalence of unskilled drivers on the roads these days.

When my Rivian arrives (hopefully later this year) this dash cam is going on the windshield.

I added a azdome m550 dash cam. 3 views, front back and interior. Easy to install and good images. I used a obd2 switch for power, but it would turn off on long drives in cruise control. Lower voltage ??
I hooked it up with the fuse box tap kit. Easy and have had no problems so far.

I put an Extang solid fold 2.0
tonneau cover on my rig. Fit like a glove. I haven't had ANY water intrusion into the cab from the back window. I have used pressure washers and 5 days of pounding rain driving and sitting outside garage. No leaks.

I'm very happy with my purchase.
Go for it !

My 19yr old recently got into her first parking lot fender bender. She called us since she was nervous, when we got there the other driver started yelling, etc. at my kid. Off course they were blaming the teenager (my kid). We let it be changed info, etc.. I drove her car home and realized that I forgot I placed a Garmin Speak dashcam. That my friends changed everything, I submitted the video to our insurance and they determined that it was the others drivers fault.

I'm thinking of getting a 2CH cam for my kid's car. Debating on a q800 or dr750. Nothing wrong with the Garmin Speak except it doesn't have a rear cam.

I have the Thinkware U1000, great cam but sucky UI, IMO.

Look at the Blackvue DR750X-Plus and you'll never want to buy another dash cam again. They are AWESOME and better than the Thinkware IMPO. The new Blackvue app is fantastic and super easy to se too.

My dash Cam was dealer installed. did not request it, but glad I have . I have used many different dash cams over last few years, they all work well, some more $$ have nice features. I liked the one I had in my Tacoma, that instead of battery in it , had a capacitor, worked great for the very HOT summer heat in GA. Rove was camera , company out of Chicago area, as I recall and less than $200.00, good company and quick response at least when I needed.

This one .. https://www.amazon.com/BlackVue-DR750X-2CH-microSD-Dashcam-Optional/dp/B08D627HBZ?

Best price ?
Easy install steps documented by anyone ?
Yes...buy it from here and not Amazon so you have full support. Easy install...I will walk you through it. I have posted pics along with others on the installation but not difficult at all.

Buy the Polarizing Filter and nothing more. You can get your SD card and fuse taps off Amazon.

I've been using a Mercylion hidden dashcam in my Honda Ridgeline for the past year, and I love it. It's a dual-channel dashcam that records in 4K resolution, so I can capture everything that happens around me in crystal-clear detail. It also has a built-in GPS and Parking Mode, so I can track my car's location and record any incidents that happen while it's parked.

No rear channel is a deal killer for me.
