Sooo when I bought my truck the previous owner used to throw stuff on the dash exactly above the airbag and got the airbag cover (the square thing on the right side of the dashboard so scratched up that it makes the interior look horrible, the rest of the dash is ok

so question I assume I can not just replace the cover and need the whole air bag.. how how is that to do ?

No.
The air bag door alone is not available.
Replacing the air bag assembly is not an overly difficult task, the part is sure to be costly.
Also, in doing that there is a CHANCE the new bag could trip a code with the control module. It usually does not happen, but from time to time it does.

are you kidding me.......... 560$ for one air bag.... and I can't just replace the plastic cover on the dash without getting a new air bag FML..

wait till I post a picture and you guys will see how ugly my dash is in compare to the rest of the interior in good shape but my dashboard in the corner looked like dog crap

any ideas ?

I have apretty amazing idea.. you know those pads that you can buy so you can put things on your dashboard without the things sliding ?

I can just get one of those pads and rest it on top of the air bag panel thats scratched to hide the scratches it will look clean this way

know what im talking about ?

C'mon Gouranga. Show us some pics of this affected area. I mean, how bad can it be? ;)

I can certainly understand how something like that can get on a persons nerves My first thought was one of those dash carpet covers. Then I realized that you were asking about the Passenger Air Bag and you should not put ANYTHING over that. When an airbag deploys it does so with increadable speed and force and turns anything on it into a very dangerous projectile. Yes, even a small rubber pad could do serious physical harm to you or your passenger.
And FWIW, $560 is not really all that much for an airbag, I've seen some that retail for $1000 or more. You might try calling or going by a good auto salvage yard, they have a national network and could maybe find and get you a bag from a wrecked vehicle (not all wrecks deploy airbags) for a considerable savings.
But, like I said in a different thread, Do what you want as it will be just fine...untill something goes wrong.

You are 100% correct. Putting any thing over the airbag is a very very bad idea.

As far as a salvage airbag goes, I am almost certain it is illegal. I know in Maryland it is but it might be a federal thing.

One thing about those pads, they can cause harm to the dash.
I've used them in several vehicles over the years and had them discolor one (gave it a dark yellowish tone), Darken one (made the gray color on the dash several shades darker) and one dash formed tiny bumps under the pad (think new basketball skin).
Just wanted to throw that out there...

pic added

its horrible i know
Yeah. I see what you mean.

You might take it by an interior shop and see if they can do a cosmetic repair and improve it to the point of being acceptable. The cost of a new airbag to fix the cosmetic issue is prohibitive.

Yikes.
That looks like a replacement airbag to me. It doesnt even look like the same color.
Do you have a pretty good idea on the history of that truck?

#19 ·
no its a stock airbag my interior is two tone gray... the glove box is the exact same color as that air bag a different shade of grey and so is the middle console look at morepics on my other thread about the warm grey / dark grey

From the pic, it really does appear to be a different color than the rest of the dash. My 2008 is not 2 tone. But I took a couple of pics of mine and tried to duplicate the angle, and with flash, there appears to be some color difference, but not as great as Gouranga's pic shows. Looks like he took his from the driver's seat and I took mine from the passenger seat.

Ya I took my pic from driver side at 2am lol... the flash was bright enough to light it up so maybe thats why it looks to show even more disscolor than yours but my glove box is a different shade from the dash as well

Gouranga, I honestly don't think the RL was ever a two tone dash. Now our 2006 Pilot does have a two tone dash. The top is a darker color than the rest of the dash. Yours seems to have mismatched parts. At least, they don't look like they would have come from the factory that way to me.

show me a picture of your glove box..........my center console where you have cig lighter is ALSO the same color as the glove box and the air bag on the dash....maybe you just didnt notice but my pictures were taken at night with a bright flash

show me a pic of your glove box with a flash directly on it

mine is a 2007

PS: the ridgeline didnt come in any other color

only that grey and baige so there is only one type of shade of grey for the glove box.. you have the warm grey and the dark grey
the warm grey is just baige

OK. Here are a couple of pics of my glove box and then from a little farther away that shows more. The only two tone aspect is the lighter color gray that makes up the lower console area around the 12v outlets. On the bottom picture, the light you see outside the RL is from the overhead fluorescent lighting in the garage.

Ahhmmm..........................let's get that dash dusted..................

OK am I the only one that finds your glove box also to be a different shade of grey than the dash ? so what are we talking about here ?

mine is prolly just dirtier and my flash was brighter when I took my picture

I dont have miss matched interior pieces both pictures do not have matching color/ dash/ glove box are different in both mine is just looks funny but again its dirty and scratched up ill take a pic in the day time in an hour

I am sorry man, but the more I look at it the more I think the bag and the glove box does not belong with that dash board. I am not trying to be argumentative.

It is obvious to me something is wrong here.

#31 ·
It could be that the flash is accentuating the differences. All I know is that from inside my RL, using the Mark 1 eyeball, it all looks to match very well. I notice some lighting differences in our pics. Perhaps the white balance is at work causing this.

To your eye, does the air bag cover and the glove box appear to match the rest of the dash? From what you've said, it does not. Thus, I would also have to conclude that your RL dash has been pieced together from different vehicles.

I would be curious if a body shop would be able to tell if your RL has had body and/or frame repair from an accident in the past.

now let me educate you just a little more... you see the greenish color in my glove box well I think thats just dirt from tools/pants whatever same reason its scratched up its been using and abused...

look at the right side of picture do you notice how the dash also has this dirty color look on the dash as it has on the glove box (I hightled in red)

and do you see how the very middle under the handle is actually the exact same shade as the dash (because its not dirty to hell like the rest of the glove box(highlited in yellow)

I am telling you this.
I have been in the collision repair business for over fifteen years.
I cant count how many cars I have been in and out of. New, old, well taken care of and total trash heaps. Nearly every make, nearly every model. The only time I have seen inconsistencies like yours is in cases where parts have been replaced.

Are you the original owner of the truck ?

BTW if you dont want my help let me know okay ?
