I recognize that Motorola MDT! Looks like the MW8xx series.

We have those in our patrol cars and I'm the lucky guy who gets to service them once the shop physically installs them. (I'm a network admin and police officer for a local school district.)

The only bad thing is that our MDTs frequently fail due to the extreme heat generated inside the vehicle during the summer months here in Houston.

23779- That is an 800. We've had really good luck with them, and the 810s but we don't get your kind of heat up here. But they do take a while to warm the harddrive before they'll boot up when it's 15 below. Lucky you on the network admin gig. You must have PO'd someone to get saddled with that. ha ha

Was the call to have the grill + surround blacked out part of the "make it look like the other cruisers" idea? Did your guys simply paint it, or did it get some other treatment?
Chip: Yeah, the idea was to match our Fords, which have all black grills. I tried to get the optional Honda grill which is a all black insert, but the dealership got the wrong one twice, so they decided to just paint the whole thing and see if I liked it when I picked it up. Originally I thought they should have left the chrome, but I've come to like the blacked-out look. I think their body shop just sanded it and sprayed it.

LOL!

Nah, I volunteered to take care of them. Just a natural extension of my network responsibilities. Besides, it would take weeks or months if we had to get things done by the shop. They're not exactly "computer" people.

I also maintain all systems and machines at our PD: AFIS, JOTS/DIMS, TLETS, PCs, printers, cabling, routers, switches, etc. They need a technology person on a full-time basis on location...but they can't afford me...so I do it for free after my normal working hours.

Needless to say...my chief loves me! :act060:

Thanks Mike. I think that process is in the future for mine. Just wish I had a "bud" in the body shop biz...

Some of the most awesome install pics ever! The shots comparing the vomit of wiring to the finished install always amaze me. :act035:

thx for all the extra pics, absolutely amazing how much accessory wiring goes into these cruisers!

+1 for showing the ROC homepage on your mobile

Awesome Ridge. So well done from front to rear.

I would be very interested in knowing if you find a larger output alternator. That might be a potential "group buy".

After months of work putting this vehicle together and several visits to the ROC for information, I finally decided to join, even though I'm not the "owner".

About a year ago, I set out to replace our '03 Ford Expedition used by our patrol division as a spare car and in inclement weather, and several of our officers felt they’d rather have a truck than an SUV. The downside was no secure storage for those things we must bring along with us while working. One of our detectives has a 2006 RTL and after looking at the trunk and making sure there was enough room, it seemed a logical and superior replacement for an SUV. And back last summer when planning this, I wasn't even sure we could get approval for a full-size SUV because of the gas prices. So we "downsized" and ended up with a very capable vehicle that has more utility value than our old Expo, and will likely give years of dependable service. This vehicle has everything our other patrol cars have with the exception of a partition between the front and rear seat, which we've never put in our 4x4 spare car.

This has been in service since August, and I finally finished it with a brush guard from Burtman Industries to complete the "as close to our Crown Vics look" as possible. I went with an RTS to get a power seat, and then swapped back to black RT steel rims for durability. Silver is pretty easy to match, and the Billet Silver metallic is close enough to our Ford color. I'd like a full vinyl floor covering, but WeatherTech floor liners are the next best thing to keep the carpets clean.

One of our guys wants all Ridgelines, but we can't afford that. I cannot find another Police Department using a Ridgeline but am interested if anyone knows of any. And now if I can convince my wife to buy me one to drive everyday, but also keep my F-350 for plowing and hauling...

*There are a lot of pictures of the install as well as additional completed pictures starting at post #78 of this thread.
Anyone have rifle rack for the Ridgeline? Just picked up a 2009 two weeks ago...new to the site...thanks for the great info.

BEST COP TRUCK EVER. :act035:

yea very nicely done up cruiser, definitely would turn a few heads.
So after the last few months I am sure most of the department has had a chance to try it out, what is the consensus? Would the department do this type of vehicle again?

Wondering what type of performance mods that thing has?
Also wonder if it does have modifications, would Honda void its warranty because its a police vehicle.
