Mine felt better than new too after they did that.....and then a day later I got the “transmission system problem” warning. Hope you don’t!

I am not sure if this has been answered before, but what is it with the Honda transmission that is making it overheat to the point of cooking the transmission fluid?

Bill
I don't really know, but my guess would be that it is due to how the transmission is integrated with the engine and FWD-predominant layout. I'm not aware of any transverse-mounted engine/trans layout that is rated to tow more than 5k. There's just not much room in the engine bay to allow a lot of airflow around the transmission, so it must rely on what may be an undersized auxiliary cooler when conditions get tough. A larger cooler and/or cooling fan would probably help tremendously, but needs to be thermostatically controlled, as too much cooling could lead to problems, also.

In the Jeep Grand Cherokee, you have a traditional longitudinally-mounted engine and transmission, and that vehicle can be equipped to tow something like 7600lbs, despite it being a unibody. I think, aside from the extra D-pillars for body stiffening, that the trans cooling is the second most important difference between the JGC and the G2 wrt towing capacity.

Just my guess, though...

The Nissan Pathfinder is a unibody vehicle with a transversely-mounted engine and a CVT (!) that is rated to tow 6,000 lbs. even in front-wheel drive.

Now with the tranny out and the drive axles dropped they say they need to replace wheel bearing on one side.

Wires were torn somewhere in tailgate which crapped out my rear camera. Need that fixed too. They said I did it somehow..... it was broke prior to taking it in but how could I have torn the wires?

This is a known issue with 2017-2018 Ridgelines. The 2019 has a revised harness.

I’m having issues almost daily with RPM fluctuations but the dealership said I have no codes and the typical The tech didn’t notice anything when driving, picked it up a mile later it started.

My 2017 Black Edition is in the shop now for a transmission swap. Started having major issues as described in this thread, ie 20-60km/hr thudding, rumble strip feelings happening in the week or so prior to that. They claim it’s the first one to have transmission failure without throwing a code though, and the flush method didn’t work.. so they’re apparently having the whole transmission sent to HQ for analysis. They’re also having trouble getting a replacement transmission in, claiming no eta beyond “November” — ouch.
Update - so they say they push a rush on it, and wound up finishing the swap on Friday. I’ve got it now, and all seems well & smooth-shifting again. Time will tell, I suppose!

Just had this done it took 3 trips before it was finally done, so far seems to have corrected it and seems to be running much better, to bad it took 3 trips and the scratched the shit out if my hood so I’m dealing with that now.

That's one of the reasons I prefer brands that minimize the number of warranty repairs required. Too many non-caring hands touch vehicles!

Looking at the bright side of this, if judder develops before the recommended transmission fluid change is due, the the cost of doing the change falls upon the dealer!

Bill
Or, you could end up where I did. I felt the judder, and took it in.. and they wound up needing to do a whole transmission swap. Was with them for almost 2 weeks. Wasn’t too fun/whistle-worthy.

Well, was the swap done under warranty?

Bill
Yes, of course. The bulletin (and their corporate chain) spells it all out clearly, such that any subsequent problem stemming from this issue is to be covered (up to 80k).. but that’s not my point.

As much as the adage — that many pickup owners don’t actually “use” their pickup — is likely true for many, I’m sure I’m not the only one who actually does rely on my vehicle for “pickup” needs. Not having it for an extended period was a real pain / limitation for my work.

My point was that the TSB at-hand is not something to “whistle” about, not for me anyways. Combined with the other recall (fuel pump), and the lack of any visible / rumored effort to compete with the hybrid efforts from other manufacturers (even Ford, geez!), this last year has really soured my view of Honda.

I just happen to be more of "a glass is half full" sorta fellow, I apologize for the offense for it certainly was not the intention! It sounds like it is time for you to ditch your Honda and move on, best of luck!

Bill
Well, when the half-full glass costs as much as a BE, I have a tough time being so positive.. so kudos to your impressive ability there, friend! As for future endeavors, as the wife is a manager at a Honda dealership, that will undoubtedly lead to an tense conversation.. but one that ought to happen, if Honda doesn’t wise up soon. Tesla and Ford have put a clock on things, so here’s to hoping the Japanese brands step their game up and respond accordingly!

Tesla or Ford? Shaking my head....................

(All in fun!)

Bill
Hey, you’re talking to a guy who has been a proud 100% Toyota / Honda owner my whole life — Yaris, xB, 4Runner, Ridgeline. I get it, I do! But, do you really mean to say that you’re not disappointed by the lack of forward movement at Honda right now?

Hell, they’ve been sitting on a prototype PHEV Pilot for over 1.5 years now! What’s the deal? I’d love to understand where their head is at right now.
