Where is the "Gauge Control Module?"

The odometer / temp / service reminder LED's on my '06 RTL are blinking constantly and the dealer says it's a bad "gauge control module," p/n 78100-SJC-A14, $540. Yikes. I've called around to various yards, and none of them track a part by that name, but several have complete instrument clusters (i.e. the three analog gauges and everything attached to those). Anyone know if said "control module" is attached to / part of the instrument cluster, or (if not) where it lives in the dash?

Thanks...

As I see it in the service manual, the Gauge Control Module is either connected to the instrument display or behind it. You have to remove the instrument panel, drop it forward and remove three connectors to disconnect the module. That said, according to the manual, you will need the Honda HDS service tool to transfer data from the ECU to the display. Other wise, the display will read "-- -- --"

It appears that the LCD display within the instrument cluster itself doesn't seem to have a very long lifespan past four years.

More and more members with '06's are starting to complain about erratic display operation. Luckily, I recently had mine replaced under the HondaCare extended warranty. My dealer listed the cluster at $650+.

It appears I am on my 2nd GCM replacement. This went out in 2010, and again two weeks ago. Becareful, when these lights goes on (in my case any way) I lose ABS function (locks up and slides), VSA function (only one drive wheel, no 4x4). This is serious **** ya'll!, hence the high cost, it regulates many critcal safety functions

I suggest you start your own thread since this thread is 4 years old. I doubt you'll get a response from the original poster.
